I see the major reason for adopting ratings breakdown is not just author requests but it is already a proven safer approach followed by many online stores.

Online stores forces customers to write a review along with the rating, and the seller can reply back to that review. Which makes perfect sense, so potential buyers can understand the reasons of a low rating.

Online stores didn’t arrive all those features in single day. It takes step by step implementations at the cost of user complaints and compromise. Usually I won’t support Envato for these long delays to give green signal for essential features but when it comes to delays after started implementing, we supposed to respect the careful/step by step approach. Certain things can be implemented in single attempt while certain things require multiple phases.

This is why a perfect 5* is practically unachievable. Regardless of item’s fitness, always there are fraction of buyers who expects out of context features. Angry buyers wont calculate things and just click the lowest possible star. That’s why most of the product based stores display the ratings breakdown so that a buyer can see more data than average. The average is unsafe due to angry buyers, while the breakdown display (as recently implemented) helps expose the the big picture.

This is why the marketing people gets low respect among others globally. Trying too much to force customers towards one side and reaching a level where all the technical excellence becoming questionable unnecessarily.

In the process of making buyers return in the future, the scheme supposed to not loss the self respect. For a $20 deposit system, a $15 bundle can work better than 19. (unless the overall aim is just trying to get profit out of ignored $1 deposit balances through the bunch of mini bundles in the future)
