Just a quick question,

Lets say I wanted my design to have 20px margin from the top of some text, would I measure from the very top of the text for example this word: ‘They’ would I go from the top of the ‘Th’ or from the top of ‘ey’, sorry if this is a stupid question, it’s just another thing I have always wondered about.

I have a project which is in design stage and will need a mobile app, is there anyone here who can provide an app development service?

To give you a rough idea of how the system would work and how the app comes in see below:

A user creates an account on the website which allows them to add date specific items (as many as they want) so as an example (this isn’t what it’s for but it’s the exact same system):

Spider Man Out On DVD – 01/01/2013

New Kings Of Leon Album – 01/07/2013

So this user now has a database with all the stored dates.

They can then download ‘The App’ login to there account and when it hits one of the dates it pings up with a notice, telling them they can now get the item. They will also have the ability to add new items within the app also.

Can anyone provide development for the app? I would give you access to the database and you code against it.

Just so you know this is not a like but a must and the app does need to be developed by someone.

This is the kind of stuff im looking for.

So for example I would usually do the following which has 40px margin-top, 40px margin between title and body text, then 40px margin at bottom, body text line height 20px but it just dont look right.

I think its easy to forget that Graphic River is owned by Envato and they are a business and to survive as a business they need to make money.

If your design is priced at $2 it doesn’t mean it’s not any good, they are looking to make as much as possible from each design approved.

If I new a item would do 1000 sales at $2 or 100 sales at $6 I would want it priced at $2 and so would Envato.

At the moment I just go by eye and in general it turns out ‘good enough’ to get the job done but im not a professional designer so I never went to uni or done a course on design standards, I am happy with my design ability as a lot compliment them but some things in design like font must have rules.

The problem I am having with fonts is sometimes if there is a lot say a headline, sub header, 100 words of text, it can look very cramped and another thing which is doing my head in is:

I use 20px line height for paragraphs, now if that paragraph has a headline before it I need a fairly large gap between the 2 elements to make them look separate because the 20px line height is getting close to looking like a space in itself.

Any advice on font standards for line height, font sizes, ratios between headlines and body text, when and when not to use sans and sans serif.

Sorry if this all looks messy quite hard to explain.

I’ve been a member for about 2 weeks now but keep getting stuck in same rut.

The sort of stuff I want to turn out is going to take me a good 4-5 hours, now if I do that and get no sales it causes a problem because that time could have been spent on clients or my own projects, but I understand it’s a risk I have to take, which is fine.

But the sort of stuff which takes less is like navigation, buttons, sliders, facebook timelines etc but this stuff has been done to death.

I think the Graphic River team should post a thread on what they need (or lack) and I will design for those needs.

I know there is a section somewhere where it mentions stuff needed and not needed but I cant find it.
