Thanks for appreciation. I recently have several ideas in my head and I want to share them with community. because if more of us master their files to be SEO friendly the more people find our marketplace – new people means new clients and more sales for everyone.

Being a reviewer on Videohive for quite some while i noticed that people don’t pay enough attention to tags. Back in the days when we had separate tag section for color 99% of items came in with “All colors” tag and half of them this was only color tag. While you might feel that “All colors” tag really tells user that your project can be customized and used with any color – tag field is not item description. Users don’t read tags to understand your item’s features. Users use search engines to find stuff and search engines use tags and other keywords to return results.

Now think. If user searches for items in red color will or will not he find item with “all colors” being only color tag? So don’t under estimate the importancy of listing colors and other specific things in your tags. Search engines are not humans. They don’t know “red” is also covered by “all colors”

I shared some more SEO tips from my marketplace experience: http://placdarms.lv/make-your-marketplace-items-seo-friendly.html

In authors tutorial there is title that says: Annual Review of Files

Every year items on the Envato Marketplaces are reviewed to ensure the library remains up to date with current software and trends. If your item does not pass review, you will receive email notification and your item will become inactive after 30 days.

If you check this link you’ll notice there are files from 2006 with 2 or even 0 sales. http://videohive.net/category/motion-graphics?order=asc&sort_by=published_at

I recently deleted some of my Backgrounds with 6, 8 and 11 sales thinking it’s not worth to occupy Envato servers with those files.

We all know (or we should know) that Authors Tutorial says: The item must NOT include any brand names, logos or trademarks.

But is there any place where you can actually check what is and what isn’t trademark/brandname? I was trying to search for such a database in Google there appears to be some, but interesting enough none of them returned any results for Coca Cola nor Nike or other well known brands. That made me doubt their reliability.

As an author who is trying to get some word out there, build some community and earn from referrals I set up my wordpress blog where I publish my templates, offer free downloads and start to share some tips. What I find hard is to republish my items there. I’ve set up my item posts all in same style, but since they use shortcodes to display video in lightbox and list the features as well as highlight some other parts it’s quite a job setting each post up. So I was thinking would be nice to have a plugin where I could specify my marketplace item’s URL or ID and it would return info in the form of shortcodes.

what i mean is. I would set up the post template something like this <h1>[item-title]</h1><img src="[item-image]" /><a href="[item-link]">Buy [item-title] from here</a>

and then by just specifying items ID or URL my post would be filled with all necessary data.

Is there something like that already made or maybe someone wants to make it? I think there might be demand from authors.

Good points everyone.

Actually I was the one that always tried to live on freebies. It was more like a principle – not to give my 10$ to those evil ….. authors. Then I realized I lost more time (money) googling for freebies than I would spend buying one of those pro projects. Possibly if I would find what I was looking for between freebies i would still think that. This proves your point.

But then again there is Cramer who does a lot for free and through that has build a huge community and sell’s his products like a charm. And what about sxc.hu?

Oops. Sorry. I should read forum rules again then. Good that I’m not Mod would have a hard time then. Anyways. then keep this thread as an encouragement to start building your freebies base. As regarding Envato – I think it could help to bring in some traffic if we would have some videohive freebies section. it might also help to keep our commercially available stuff high quality, because then reviewers would have 3 options – aproove, reject or send to freebies section.

Hi Videohivers. Every now and then we all got some rejections. I was talking to several authors that felt upset after we rejected their files and I encouraged them to post those rejected files on their blogs/vimeo/youtube accounts for free download to attract some traffic to their pro templates. I think it’s a great thing to do – get something good out of project that you’ve worked on and that didn’t make it through to VH professional templates database. I’m doing it myself and actually I recently took down some of my Vh files and now I’m offering them for free because they were not doing too good as a paid templates. I still hope to work on this more and offer some high quality free content as well.

But the question is – Do you also offer free content? if you do – post link to yours here. I share mine here: [link removed]

Hi. Thanks for this review. It’s quite interesting. I’ve read it all, but just guessing if Paypal-Bank conditions are different in Latvia than other countries, even inside Europe.

It could be. Im just speeking from my experience there. However this might make you think and calculate and find your own best option.

Thank you for this. I just have one question.

This is what i read in moneybookers faq:

We will process your withdrawal in EUR , USD or the official currency of the country where your bank is located. Information regarding the currency in which Moneybookers processes every particular withdrawal request is displayed in the final confirmation screen of your withdrawal.

And you said that they carry out withdrawals in EUROS only, so I am confused about that.

I also just read that, however i checked my bank statement and it said EUR converted to Lats so they transfer money in euros and then in my bank they got exchanged to local currency. I also remember reading in withdrawal window that all transactions are carried out in Euros. Will check this at the beginning of next month when some money will come in my Moneybookers account.
