Hi guys, getting back into releasing themes on ThemeForest again and submitted this: http://simnorlabs.com/themeforest/demos/?theme=scrollin-html it was hard rejected so any ideas as to how it can improved to “meet minimum requirements for quality and/or marketplace policies”

Typography and HTML elements page is here as well: http://simnorlabs.com/themeforest/html/scrollin/page.html

Cheers

I was going to move my support to an external forum because I find myself answering the same question over an over again, that’s why authors tend to do it, so that there is a searchable database of answers, unfortunately the support system in TF is not good enough.

I’m going to hold off for now though I think because I presume TF are working on something, I know authors have been concerned about this for a while now.

As I run one of these services, (if you want my details let me know) I find that my clients are really amazed that I deliver the designs coded properly, unfortunately it seems to be an issue with this industry that there are so many bad companies out there that bring the entire industry down.

What I normally advise against is going for a company, it’s always better to build a relationship with a coder/developer especially if you are likely to have more than one job, they will be more inclined to keep your business rather than the bigger companies that get new clients every day so it doesn’t matter so much, plus you are in direct contact with the actual person doing the coding.

Just my 2 cents from the industry :)

I’ve spent 3 days on this so hopefully it will be of some use to others as well as me, I started with the wefunction tutorial and added the ability to add an image (url or upload).

The code is on snipplr http://tinyurl.com/2w22dxs if you’d like to use it.

Screenshot of the result is here: http://twitpic.com/3ln2sw

Happy New Year everyone!

PS sorry for the tinyurl, ThemeForest is messing up the link for some reason

And I thought I had an awful customer a few weeks ago, this guy is just ridiculous, I feel for you mate.

It looks like he’s either been booted off the site or left, try going to his profile and it give you a page not found.

Ok yeah but that’s the freedom that we offer :) they can do whatever they want as long as they follow the terms. If you’re professional you will tell your client that you’re buying a theme, of course you will charge for customizations in fact that’s what I do with quick projects. But if you prefer to not tell anybody, yes you can because you paid money and is not forbidden, however it’s unprofessional IMHO .
That would be illegal in many countries. Pretty sure that would be illegal in Denmark.

I’m pretty sure it’s not illegal to do that, what do you think white label products are? A company produces a can of no brand cola, sells them to a supermarket and the supermarket put their own packaging on, it happens everywhere.

You don’t have to tell the buyer where you got the product from by law, it may break the terms of contract but it certainly is not against any countries laws that I know of, especially in Europe which has a free market.

Theme doesn’t mean design, theme means a base to build a site upon.

The reason templates have similar styles/layouts is because that’s what buyers buy, simple as that. Look at your own template, minimalist look with header, nav, banner, 3 column homepage. Why did you do that style, because you knew it would sell, pretty much every author is doing that so taking into account that it’s a style/layout that sells well and the fact there are over 3000 files on TF, there are going to be some that may look similar.

If you think they are copies then contact support and they’ll decide. Don’t call them out in a public forum.

Also, I’m starting to get a bit peeved at the number of threads that are appearing with titles like this, and every time we say the same thing, creativity doesn’t matter, unique designs don’t matter because neither of these sell, we (authors) are here to MAKE MONEY , so we’ll create what sells. It’s basis business logic, we’re not here to create a portfolio!

Thanks for all your comments

@atlasmc Thanks, good to get a marketplace buyer perspective

@jonathan01 regarding media temple, a little trick whenever you submit a ticket, post on twitter that you submitted a ticket about a media temple issue (with the @mediatemple in it), someone from the support department gets back to you within minutes because they are so scared of having bad reviews on places like twitter, don’t we just love the way twitter has made companies change and get scared when things go wrong :)

Hi guys, I had a person post a rather damning post on my item page about my support and was wondering what you guys think of this, (I’m on a 5 star support rating) basically yesterday I didn’t reply to the comments as I had client work, was watching the Apple keynote etc. so I put a comment on twitter:

“Not a very productive day today, that’s what happens when you work from home and get distracted with stuff, back to the office tomorrow :)”

One of the people who bought one of my themes was following me on Twitter and then posted this because I didn’t reply to their comment straight away (btw, this person has had 14 posts in my support thread and countless emails, plenty of support in my opinion), anyway this is what she said:

“Not a very productive day today, that’s what happens when you work from home and get distracted with stuff, back to the office tomorrow :)”

You’ve been on twitter, but what about supporting your customers Simon?

Hope you enjoyed your films!

Would have been nice to have heard back from you…….think I’ll stick to from now on. Themeforest designers get back to you when they feel like it.

Not on my shift they don’t.

Themeforest is same old same old – pay your money then regret it.

With a theme a week old I expected a bit more….but alas.

Never again! This is my last ever purchase on Theme Forest.

Thanks for the giving me the nail to put in the coffin!

Basically, what I’m wondering is who’s in the wrong here, the way I’ve always seen it is

a) Support is not required, it’s a choice b) 24 hours to answer a comment is an acceptable amount of time to wait right? c) What comes first, clients and their emails or buyers of TF templates and their comments?

Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

For those interested, this was my reply:

I’m sorry you feel that way, but what you need to understand is that I’m a freelancer, I have clients as do many authors on this site, ThemeForest is a source of passive income for most of the authors on here, we have jobs so we provide support when WE HAVE TIME not the other way round. That’s what happens when you pay $35 for a theme, hence the reason why themes are so cheap on here.

As for my comment on Twitter, what I do in my day has absolutely NOTHING to do with you, if I want a less than productive day then I can. Most buyers on here understand that ThemeForest is not the first priority for authors, we are all freelancers and have clients who have our full attention, ThemeForest is a second income stream. If you want support within an hour then go to a company that has a dedicated support department, but having worked for the leading premium theme company in the support department I know full well that 24 hours for a reply is perfectly acceptable.

Now I’m sorry that you feel that you’ve had a bad experience, but my support is amongst the best on ThemeForest, just look at my ratings, and considering I’ve given you more support than I would have given anyone else (I count 14 posts on this thread and a number of emails in my inbox, and only a few that are bugs which are always present in new themes), I think my support has been excellent and just because I don’t reply to you within less than 24 hours you write such a damning post about my support is totally out of order.

Contact Themeforest support if you want your money back but they’ll most likely refuse you because my support has been excellent and ThemeForest will agree.

I use carbonite, it’s on 60 bucks a year and after the initial backup you just forget about it as it does a continuous backup, it’s completely unlimited and I think you can access your files from any computer.
