They said that people sit “about 20 to 23 inches” from the screens, but I don’t know anyone who sits that far back.

I guess maybe.

One of the problem is a lot of the themes are targeted at designers and if there’s one thing we designers love it is small type.

I think as an elite author having the pricing tool was a hugh incentive, and it’s kid of sounding like the new pricing system is going to be more all over/ every item. Not excited about that.

Mostly I just don’t want to see prices go down. As is I think every item on TF is under priced.

The only elite author I ever saw using the pricing tool was Orman, and after increasing his prices his sales never dipped. You’re trading him a tuts+ membership and some merit badges, for what would probably would be thousands of dollars.

I just don’t understand how the tool wasn’t working.

Long and short +1 for Orman’s comment.

I haven’t seen an increase in sales on my pirated file, but I do know that the week my file got posted on filesonic sales dropped like a rock. The file went from a consistent 25 sales a week (8 months in a row) to 5-10, and eventually nothing.

I’m pretty confident that the bulk of filesonic’s files were copyright infringement. I’ll gladly dance on their grave.

Well now I feel a lot smarter using CSS3 as often as possible. The issue comes in to play that a lot of people use 1024×768 resolution and old browsers at work – do we just forget about them, or treat them as tablet users?

Forget about them.

By the time my last submission made it to the marketplace it was 50% different from the original.

I think it’s a better file now, but sometimes I don’t agree on some of their request. I’ve been told to change things before that I KNOW to be right and correctly designed. It’d be nice to be able to push back, but it feels like you gotta do what they ask or else it’ll never get accepted. I guess I could always try and push back and sight my reasonings. But I agree the review process can be a tricky one to maneuver.

Let’s be clear. Flash in the browser on mobile is dead but it pretty much already was (with Apple not willing to support flash and the fragmented android market it’s easy to see why adobe is cutting development).

Flash for desktop and mobile app development is still alive though. Which is good news. There are still things flash does better than HTML5 . Either way you still need to provide a slightly different experience for mobile viewers whether you use flash or javascript.

This site is a perfect example: http://www.gamesweplayed.sg/

And the good news is that every flash developer can now switch to mobile app development. I don’t think adobe is doing a good enough job with publicizing these features. But let’s be clear that flash is not dead.

Ok so I figured it out. And incase anyone else has a similar question here’s what the answer was.

It turns out that if you have TLF text inside a mask or if it’s masked, when viewed in the browser only the embedded font is displayed. Any text or characters which aren’t embedded (usually display) will not display if the text field is masked in any way.

@FlashTang thanks for your reply. The idea behind the TLF text is you can embed the font you want to use, and then if you pass characters which aren’t embedded the TLF textfield will display the device font version of the text not embedded. Otherwise like you said you get a HUGH swf with all the added language support.

Alright I have this file that is passed different localized XML files for a sites different foreign languages.

The text field is TLF (because it supports characters that are embedded), and when I view the file in flash or the flash IDE everything looks great. BUT when I view the project embedded in a webpage (or if I open the swf in firefox) the characters for korean, japanese, and russian do not appear. Like they’re non existent.

Anyone know of a work around? or a fix? The other weird thing is there’s one other textfield that does display the characters. It’s already on the stage though and not loaded dynamically like the other one.

Help!

Turns out FP11 has a new value you can test isPlaying(). It works, but it’s a pain in the A$$ to publish to FP11 and you can’t test it in the IDE flash player. Bummer.

I think I’ll give the kirupa sinoclar method a try.

I don’t want to dispatch an event because in the sub loaded swf is going to have a lot of stops and writing stop() is much easier than dispatch event.

And it’s more universally compatible (or so I’m thinking).

Thank you everyone for your help! This is the smartest, best, Flash community on the planet.
