Look at the screenshot below. It is the ActiveTuts Home page. 3 out of 9 ads are leading to competitor Flash marketplaces:

http://active.tutsplus.com/

1. For $30 you can get >$700 items outside Envato
2. Why care about Flip books in Activden, click here and get all kind of Flash stuff
3. Free flip book

(So those ADs are not reviewed by staff!)

So Active tuts no longer going to help Activeden’s traffic.

It doesn’t stops there. I have seen so many AD author’s profile pages having links to competitor marketplaces and free download pages. It is surprising that Envato staff depends solely on complaints from authors rather than monitoring those things themselves. Please atleast do it once in a month.

By the way found this on Envato wiki:
Authors may not offer their items for free on the Envato marketplaces, nor promote free items anywhere on the marketplaces. Additionally, if an author is exclusive they may not offer their item for sale on the marketplaces for free on another site without voiding their exclusivity agreement with the Envato marketplaces.

Having purchased ad space on the tuts site they use a 3rd party to set up their ads, and I bet they have no way to monitor who buys what. At least those ads are terrible.

As for people here linking away that makes me mad.

I saw Flip Book Free today, and checked it out. I still have to figure out what that’s all about. It looks like a marketing ploy ultimately linking back to activeden with referral attribute. Flash PageTurn 3D has been there forever and links to a talented Chinese Developer.

Flip Book Free is mine, I don’t think I brake any rules VF described (and the ads are being approved before published), anyway I have replaced the add and pointed the new add to AD to one of my files and not advertise on the site anymore (hope it gets approved soon).
