I never knew that a user sees the markup and actually not design. Come on guys! Good markup is good if you are going to edit the template by hand, it’s a must. However, sites built with Muse will be edited with Muse. It works, it produces over the average sites. They are not quite good, but they work and they are over the average. You have TOTALLY missed the point about why it’s so damn important to produce great looking semantic code.
So. If you need a guy to repair you car, would you then like him to use ducktape and glue to fix the engine? Come on? No problem.. No ordinary person should look at the engine anyways? right? And it’s working? right?
See the problem?![]()
No, you are omitting an important point here: Does the code produced by Muse break the site? If no, then it’s not different. It’s not semantic code, but it’s a fully working and usable one.

Your comparison is useless if you don’t state the problem. What’s the problem with Adobe Muse code, it doesn’t render well? it’s slow? it’s buggy?
I didn’t try it; but if it does what it pretend to, then it’s no different than the code you produce. You give importance to semantic code because you and your peers read it. Adobe Muse doesn’t give importance to semantic code because it can only read its’ auto-generated one.
In the end: same result. The user doesn’t bother whether it’s made in German or in China. It works as intended. That’s the point.

just a question… do search engines like Google not prefer semantic code over messy code?
If a non-techy business person sets up a website for their business, if it doesn’t rank well due to the product they’ve used to build their site, maybe it could cost them more than hiring a pro to build them a site…
Is there any auto-coding-app that produce nice code? No. You can not create everything with drag and drop. And this fact will never change.
Wow! Image maps! That looks amazing. All my clients have been asking to hide menu items in their images! lol

I really hope you’re kidding. Because, you know, it’s very hard to judge your tone with such a variety of opinions on the Internet.

Ranking is not easy. I don’t think you can rank with just semantic code and keywords in your website. If you want to rank well, you’ll need to pay a SEO professional which isn’t cheaper than a very good designer.
Muse targets users with very low budget.

The end product will probably cost $1000, so I’ve no idea where you’re going with this.
