This may be a stupid question but I wondering what both authors and buyers think of XML configurable files. By that I mean Flash files which generally don’t require editing other than the XML file itself. Are buyers generally looking for these ‘turn key’ solutions rather than having to ‘self compile’ a file in their own copy of Flash? Obviously this applies more to things like galleries and mp3 players rather than progress bars etc.

If the dynamic content of the file is generated from a XML file, is better to have settings on it too, but if the dynamic content is generated inside the file, I don’t see the reason to have settings in a XML file… Just my opinion.

I’ve found that the grand majority of buyers on this marketplace have beginner/intermediate flash skills and that I get the most sales/least questions and confusion when items have design elements on stage in the .fla easily editable, and have content elements in XML for easy repeatable editing.
So in the case of an mp3 player, the links to each song, the titles for the songs, whether it autoplays or waits until play is clicked, etc, all in XML .
The colors of the buttons, shapes, text fonts, etc all right on stage for easy editing in the Flash IDE as vector graphics, NOT in xml cuz then most just end up confused on how to edit them, don’t know why it doesn’t change when they edit the objects/can’t find objects on stage, etc.
Basically, make it so as much editing of graphics and visuals as possible can be done on stage in the .fla, as much of the editing of content as behavior as possible is in XML , and as little as possible that requires any script editing.

I find more and more buyers don`t even own Flash. I think you are on the right track with turn key files.

The turnkey kind of files has enormous sales potential than the ones that needs editing through flash. But whatever may be the backend options, if the front-end with default setting is not simple, then it will significantly reduce sales potential.
