Since interviews need atleast some basic respect towards authors, I would suggest Envato staff to shortlist themselves and contact the candidates. Surely atleast 9 out of 10 authors would have no problems to participate in interviews. Also the interview readers will feel some respect on the interviews.

Conveying that “since our list is empty, we need more applications” sounds author interviews lost its
“spot-light” nature.

I Agree with you.

I really enjoy the Interviews as a way of learning about ‘modern young creatives’, their lifestyles and conditions of working. But i think many of them are self-conscious about their abilities to write in English and so we are the losers. Maybe it would be an encouragement to devise a second alternative interview form with short one line answers which could be moulded into essay format by an Envato editor?

@joiaco That’s a great point. Authors who are concerned about their limited English can be confident that their interview will be carefully edited. Every mistake will be corrected, and we’ll make your sentences sound more natural to English readers.
