While the responses were gold, the original intent of the post was little more than an attempt to stir things up.

Already we’ve gone offtopic. I mentioned the aforementioned topic because it was an example of trolling on the forums. The idea of my little thread here is to open up discussions about how trolling can be tackled so that discussions don’t get completely derailed.

There’s nothing more frustrating then seeing a reply with just an image. We’re not an image board, and when these images die, the posts are just going to look awful :P.

I think we have a great handle on trolling. What else could we do?

Define clear rules as to what trolling means, I.e

Positing messages with just a picture that adds little value to the discussion
Posting messages with the intent to deliberately derail the topic from its original discussion.

If what enabled did wasn’t trolling then I am at a loss as to what trolling really is.

Regarding enables’s post (image post ) I don’t see anything wrong than kidding, that’s fine we all do joke that way.

The wrong thing is about more than 3-4 mods assembling on single thread just to say “hey, guys be positive”. That will never work unless there is no intention of addressing original issue showed. Don’t you guys feel adding yourself as thick layer between envato and users? I am done with that thread, for your info.

I love people trolling around here – can’t tell you how many times it brought a smile to my face after a crappy day at work :)

To answer your question, I think this whole community actually sets its rules. We all love, hate, advice, troll, police and what not. Personally, I wouldn’t want mods policing and setting strict rules – many interesting discussions are born out of the most uncomfortable opinions. That’s why I like mods as they are now, setting an example for behavior on here.

More, with over 1.5 million users, the forums are bound to get such threads as the one you mentioned. But instead of censoring or ‘punishing’ people for speaking their mind, wouldn’t it be smarter to set an example and show a positive attitude?

It’s like asking Automattic for new WordPress features. You know the answer: contribute! :)

people don’t you have something productive to do instead of fighting on forums?

Or you are all like me? :)

I only skimmed the topic but it seems that the moderators have forgotten their own rules….

Some trolling here has been really funny, but other times it just pisses you off when the tone of thread is serious and you want to have a proper discussion about envato. If you want to troll, why not go to the off topic section?
