Bit of a long shot, but has anyone tried to buy a .com.au domain name? I want to setup a little site aimed at the Australian market, but its seems pretty impossible as a foreigner.

yeah thanks, but the problem is it looks like you need to be a registered business in Australia.

I don’t know who this hosting company is, or if its not some scam but they appear to allow you to register a com.au website for personal use. I said “appear” because as I said I don’t know, or ever did register a domain with them. So use at your own risk. Here’s the a test link

thanks doru, I have been on the site already, its one of the big one’s – once you add the domain to your cart it asks for a business number.

but on the domain register page were it ask for your info, there’s a two choice option, personal and business. Did you change that to personal? because it was by default on business.

I can’t see a personal option – I thinks its a legal requirement so I doubt there is a easy way around it.

mystery :)

this is what I see.

but probably after you register they cut you out, or if you are a member already and you made your account as business you are obligated to always use business type registration. Like the “exclusive” and “not exclusive” envato accounts. :)

But mine are only suppositions.

but ”.com in particular considered the “Beverly Hills” of domain name extensions.” so maybe you should listen to them :)
