Sometimes I forget to look at the dashboard center and this results in delayed replies to buyers.

I think that would be great. But personally I would just be happy with some sort of acknowledgement showing on the My Account button.

The thing is.. the dashboard is in my favorite bar, so every time I visit ActiveDen I go there via the dashboard instead of the homepage. So personally, I wouldn’t switch on the e-mail notification. I could see it being useful to others, though.
EDIT : wasn’t there an RSSfeed with comments out there somewhere? It would act like Tutelage’s suggestion when you’d put it in your favorites bar..

But the first idea, with a small number of unreaded comments somewhere, it’s a good one.
