Hi Lance. Apart from the whole clarifications, just to know, is there any plan to separate (somehow) the licensing system for each marketplace?

You mean so you could opt into extended on AD, but opt out on CC or something? No, no plans right now. Most people get around this with a 2nd account. I’ll bring it up to the devs to see how difficult something like this may be.
@tsafi
Nope, I am not saying he has an 8th grade education. I think it’s lower than that…..Just kidding! Man it was a joke. I apologize that it came across that way.
I just think there is no real way to simplify the terms to everyone’s liking. A better fix may be Envato having a dedicated supprt for these types of questions since there is a strong need for this by both customers and authors here on the marketplaces.

Yeah, i meant that. 2nd account looks like an impossible option for most of us, i guess.
Can’t understand why Envato consider all the marketplaces as a whole for this kind of things (licensing). Maybe i’m getting a wrong perspective, but, for example, allowing someone to buy an extended license on AudioJungle (around 40$) and be able to upload the same item on AJ with just a few retouches makes absolutely nonsense. But it makes if we consider a html template on TF to implement in on one framework. That’s what i’m talking about.
Licensing has been always a mess inside Envato. We all know is a tricky thing, but the point that authors with 4 years here still haven’t clear the concept is says it all. It’s obvious something is wrong or has been done in an inappropiate way.
We appreciate the efforts on Envato to clarify. But i think, apart from clarifications, Notes posts or alerts on forums, that the system is not suitable at all.

You were never allowed to buy an item, make small changes and sell it. We just changed our text to make that more clear.
That was just the first change in an effort to make them better. We’re working on making them better fit the individual marketplaces as well as making them more clear.

It seems there’s still going to be a lot of scenario-specific questions. Maybe we could just make a “you can’t use an extended license purchase in a product that you sell on the same marketplace” rule.
As far as the “8th grade reading level” comment, It’s not really about the majority of people not being able to understand what the new “limited repurposing” means. Because that’s true, as described in those articles the meaning is obvious. But people will look for loopholes in the licensing verbiage. And if they can’t find specific verbiage telling them what they can’t do, they may decide to ignore the obvious and implied interpretation of the rule(s). So the more examples of what is and isn’t acceptable the better IMO .

Even if it is difficult to implement, it is a basic option we are missing right now. Obviously, creating a 2nd account is not a solution due to percentage cut and identity management issues etc. The slow progress on interface improvement causes restricting licensing choice for both buyer and author.
I am not sure how frequent these requests are but “one transaction – multiple license” purchase option seems to be something missing here. These are the very basic options we are missing considering the rate of growth of marketplaces.

What’s the point of these changes when it still confuses people? You need to have licences written in simple plain English, then you can have all the legal jargon behind the scenes. Feel as if you need to be a lawyer to understand them
I pretty much agree with Thecodingdude, i think every marketplace and its individual categories should have a detailed but simple examples of “do” and “do not” like. you can do this but you cannot do that. if you do this you need to do that.
Do not modify this and that and sell it as your own.
Do modify this and use it for your personal use only.
If you do this then we will screw your ass.

LanceSnider saidOkay, I think I understand the question now.
Kopyov saidTo be honest, I’m not sure. I’ll ask Chaman, the company lawyer.

Kopyov saidI’m sorry, I may not be understanding fully. Can you give me an example?
LanceSnider saidBut the main question is the number of applications. It’s a backend, # of applications should be bigger as for me
Stammi saidAdmin templates weren’t purposefully ignored.
Kopyov saidYeah, I was also excited to read the new licence and was so disappointed, that there was nothing about Admin Templates. I’ll refer to this thread.
Not a word about admin templates. 2 of 5 presale questions are about an extended license usage, we asked you before to change license terms for admin themes, to create a developer license or at least to clarify applications usage. Why was that ignored? And what about prices for E.L.? I remember there were some thoughts about lower pricesThey fall into the same category as everything else. They are at the top of the ‘chain’, meaning they couldn’t be used within someone elses template without permission from the author.

Sorry Lance for misunderstanding.
The first line in extended license terms:
Your use of the Work is limited to a single application.
I got so many questions about this, like “We want to use an admin theme in 2 applications, which have the same database, but different domains (servers, designs, CMS etc.). Do we need to buy 2 extended licenses?” I even tried to contact support with the same question, but the answer was “We can’t provide you more detailed information, contact your local lawer or something like that”. So my reply to the buyer was “I DON ”T KNOW , marketplace support can’t help me with this issue”. I understand when WP theme is limited to 1 website, but backend stuff is different – different software types, versions, domains, online/offline, web/standalone applications, free/paid apps etc. And i can’t find any detailed information, even support can’t help. So what information should we provide to the buyers?
Basically you’re asking if you can purchase the item once and use it in multiple projects with an extended license. Unfortunately, the answer is no. Currently we don’t have a license that allows for that. We actually used to, but it was pretty unpopular. We decided that having an extra license was too confusing for buyers and we killed it. It’s something we may revisit again later, but right now the answer is no.
