I need some advice here. I uploaded a project file a few days ago and now I got an e-mail that when opening the file it gives two missing files errors. I checked the project file I uploaded and everything’s fine. Those files are in the assets folder and After Effects opens them with the project file (no errors).

Notice that I’m using exactly the same file from the zip archive I uploaded here and I extracted the project into different locations and opened it without problems. What can I do? I don’t have After Effects on my laptop so I can’t try to open the project file with another computer.. :/

Happens the way to a file is simply lost

- Open project - click to file(error) right button (Reveal Layer Sourse in Project) - Replace Footage - File (We point the way for a file ) - Open

And problems with it it will not be precise

Good luck :)

@K_G_G: He said he doesn’t have AE to try that…

I mean that I can open the file with the computer I’m working on but I can’t test the project in any other machine because this is the only computer with AE installed (my laptop sucks too much to be useful for any kind of editing..). So the project opens fine with my computer but I’m not sure if it opens fine in any other computer (at least my reviewer had problems opening it). So maybe I should load all the images into my project again and try to re-upload the file.

thx guys :)

My suggestion is to do “File – Collect Files”, I mean, if you already haven’t. :)

yes that’s the reason , just AE is looking for the path on the location on ur pc, if u use collect files all of the files will be in folder (footage) and whererever they are extracted from the zip they`ll be found from AE

After Effects got too clever lately at finding missing files.

Has anyone tried changing the name of the footage folder, lately?.. AE still finds the files…. change the name of the actual files… still finds ‘em.

It’s a real pain when you actually want to break links for one reason or another without doing it in AE.

But your problem subsonic… almost certainly solvable by using Collect.

Always collect files before uploading. File > Collect Files.

It also generates a report that helps us identify plug-ins used etc.
