Ok here’s my problem. I have a file that uses lots of dynamic text fields all created in the IDE and saved as parts of different movie clips. They all have font embedding and I’ve included all the tricky characters that foreign languages can get you with.

The the client had the site translated into russian and japanese.

Is there a way to have all those textfields switch to just _sans and not sweat the embedded font?

I’m sure there’s a way if they were created on the fly or in code and a style sheet was applied, but what about all those set in the design?

Any ideas?

Remove the current used font(s) from your system, open the fla and change it to _sans in the font replacement dialog box on startup. Not sure if this could solve your problem, though.

Thanks Pez. But it turns out the new TLF font method works really well for this purpose. It will display the embedded characters or alternate to _sans.

Who knew.

I haven’t loved the TLF problems but this is a lifesaver.

By using TLF there is no need to embed your font after you export your swf and as you say the alternate font will kick in, this will keep the swf size very small also, still few problem animate the font or exporting from xml sometime can be a problem on the missing font, also hard syntax langu; like Russian. Turkish and some more will look odd on the alternative font if you are missing those charters.
