Mmm… the first one doesn’t impress me… the use of flash is not justified… I don’t see why to use flash to create static html style layouts…
The second one is better, also if a little heavy…
it is number one in google too..
yea it is kinda clunky but here is why they did it

I here ya. But one great reason to use flash to create static html style layouts in my opinion is for transitions between pages… I always hated the html style “page blink/reload when you click on main navigation elements.. true ajax I think those traditional html layouts with flash style transition intro and outro animations would be super hot.I really like this hbo flash website and thought I would share.. the news and about us page in particular I like.. I, for one, love the “HTML” style Flash sites. They’re not really “HTML style”, as there is no such thing. They are just websites that are enhanced by Flash.
Great example: http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010mustang/

Well, I like flash html style layouts if the use of flash is justified… the ford site has appealing animations and the page composition is well studied… the hbo site is kinda flat and dry…
I loved so much the fwa theater site… a completely flex based layout similar to youtube concept… that was well made…
I loved also the roadrunner flash portal, but, obviously, Fantasy Interactive guys are great and it’s not easy to work at their level.

I don’t see any cool transition in the hbo one… the boxes of the home have a simple fade effect that can be done in js… the other pages aren’t well designed at all and don’t have any transition…
Obviously, my opinion…

dude those japan drift videos are on the mustang ford site or heaters.. I love that site.. to sick
true the hbo one had week transitions and I really dislike when radial gradients show the steps between colors or any gradient for that matter.. irks me. The site really reminds me of the triworks v4 template from here. because of the bottom bar and some other reasons
