It appears that there’s a new trend on themeforest and that’s pricing files lower than they should be. It seems there’s a lot of wordpress files that are going up for $30 instead of what seemed to be standard $35.

I don’t get it. As an author and marketplace contributor my thoughts are that the prices should be going higher not lower.

Is it a new reviewer? are people requesting less? I don’t get it.

The prices are more in keeping with the types of files being submitted more than us bringing the prices down. It’s a tiny trend that will go away quickly—don’t worry.

Hey Marc,

Actually ThemeForest’s price range has been $30 – $45 since 2 years ago I think. We’re not bringing the prices down (why always people blame the reviewers? :P ) it all depends on the design quality, theme’s functionality, flexibility and uniqueness.

Long story short It’s up to the authors.

I understand Ivor, but at least featured themes should be 35$, otherwise it makes no sense to me too :)

Do you guys feature themes that are not the top about: design quality, theme’s functionality, flexibility and uniqueness? :D

I understand packing in a lot of features, but I feel like a lot of the templates I’m seeing at the $30 price are being over looked for their design, or that their design is being under valued. I’d rather have a well designed file than one with everything under the sun in it, but it seems like authors are being “dinged” for not putting in 12 color options and xyz sidebar widgets.

That’s not true Marc, we never set the price based on the number of features, shortcodes, color variations, etc. Is all about the theme functionality and flexibility. (Heavily coded custom page templates, advanced Custom Post Types + Taxonomies, advanced features, Code Quality, Plugins independency[not a true factor but it helps], Uniqueness of the design, excellent use of spacing, typography and web elements.) And much more. There’s a lot of things we see to determine the prices.

Remember: We’re a team of 3 people + our Review Manager. As humans we can make mistakes, :) if an author ever feel that his/her theme has been underpriced they can always submit a ticket an we’ll review/discuss the request.

@ParkerandKent I disagree with you Parker, $30 themes has the same exposure rights in the marketplaces/social accounts. That’d be some sort of discrimination.

Cheers.

Ok about rights, but for me it’s a non sense thing… I’m just saying.

If lower price means less: design quality, theme’s functionality, flexibility and uniqueness… which are the criteria to be featured? Don’t tell me quality, theme’s functionality, flexibility and uniqueness ahahahah :D

No polemics, just trying to understand the meaning of your words about the pricing criteria.

NB:

No need to reply Ivor, I’m just playing with you… I know that there isn’t a real relation between price and featured items ;)
