New Quality Standards

Hey guys,

First off I wanted to thank everyone that gave their input in the previous thread about quality standards. That was really, really helpful!

I know I’ve said the before, but the biggest changes are going to be visual standards. The level of how nice a file is going to need to look is going to increase drastically. The page explaining what that means on the wiki may seem a little sparse, but that’s because there’s no checklist defining good and bad design. That said, the reviewers have a multi-page guide with over a 100 example files covering every category saying what should and shouldn’t be accepted with an explanation why.

Making sure our files work as well is just as important, if not more, than making them look nice. I think you guys will really like the page explaining what’s expected from a technical standpoint.

Lastly, we’ve added 2 new file types to the file’s-we-don’t-need list: Fullscreen video backgrounds and simple video players.

Though it’s not coming with this round of changes, the instructions will be the next thing to receive a major face lift.

There’s one other change goes along with this, but wasn’t mentioned in the articles. We’re now requiring that a sample .html page be included in any upload where the file is meant for the web. The only thing I can think of that this wouldn’t apply to is AIR files. Most of you already do this so it and it’s really easy so I’m guessing there won’t be much of an issue.

One question, which version of the Flash Debugger will the reviewers be using? I know this may seem like a dumb question, but as much as I hate to say it, I’m not convinced that FP 10 .1 is ready.

Is there a big difference between the debug players?

Not sure. Today’s release just feels a bit rushed in my opinion.

Lance, not so important a question, but is that going to become low on American Standard Time or Australian Time? I’m working on a sub par file ( )and it might be a long time before it gets finished. So I just wanted to know the exact date that way I can make arrangements to upload it before then. Oh and BTW , I switched to OOP . CrackerJack is teaching me.

Love the new quality standards. It’s all for the better. I guess authors have to step their game up.
