My theories as to why someone would hate Flash and salivate at the thought of its destruction:

1) They don’t understand it:

They may know it a little bit but don’t know it enough to harness its true potential. So what happens is they end up struggling when they’re asked to work with Flash.

2) Flash hurts their business:

Clients too often say, “I want something like this…” and they’re referring to a Flash component or Flash website. I personally don’t think I’ve ever had a client tell me they liked something about a website that wasn’t using Flash in an awesome way.

3) Apple is God

They’re Apple fan-boys. They live in Apple forums and eat and breath Apple.

I LOVE ThemeForrest files. They’re friggin’ awesome! Because in some situations, a kick-ass WordPress theme is just what the doctor ordered. But this doesn’t mean that there isn’t a time and place for Flash.

So from my perspective, anyone who hates Flash does so for personal reasons. Because it just doesn’t make sense otherwise.

lol…so true! I have some friends they think Apple is a God! lol…

but as you mentioned, knowing the true potential of Flash is essential.

Around 5 months ago, I customized one flash template site from the AD for a customer. They were happy with the website. Around a month ago, same client called me telling me the website was “too complicated to navigate” and after having some meetings, we decided the best option was to give them a WP powered website.

In this case, it was my fault because I could not explain my client the true potential of flash and I was unable to understand his needs. I still love Flash and will always support their community even though Steve Jobs is through a “Flash-emotional” time.

So keep the good work kids!

The web is and always has been about choice, not restriction ;)

You are exactly right. I would add to that – they tried working with like Actionscript 1 or 2, got frustrated and never touched it again.

I didn’ read all the pages here, but remember an article that said the Ipad with flash enabled will have only 1.5 hour of battery life.(I suppose that for the other Apple Devices will be the same..)
I dont’ really know if it’s flash cpu consuming or what…

Most html/css coders use JavaScript, which has the same origins as ActionScript (based on ECMAScript) and I’d say it’s harder to master than AS. :P
No, you can do it in less than 6 months if you start with the basics and gradually build up your repertoire :D
