Since I’m still relatively new to FlashDen (I’ve uploaded 2 thus far) I was wondering what people’s experiences are with a file’s lifespan.

By that I mean do you usually see a file’s sales drop over time and If so how drastically? As new files get added your file gets pushed further and further down the page and eventually onto subsequent pages. Do you find that once your file gets pushed to page 2 sales slow right down (if not stop altogether)?

I’m relatively happy with the sales I’ve had so far and I guess I’m just asking to see if it’s worth continuing contributing here.

In my experience yes sales do drop, but as long as you use cross file marketing and continue to upload files your profile will get noticed and those old files will continue to sell.

And besides, you might make it fat with a spectacularly created file that could become popular. But yeah, sales drop for files that have hardly any demand.

If you just stuck with the two files then yes overtime unless they are initial best sellers they would wither and die but the whole point with flashden is that you get out of it what you put in. The more you upload, the more people will become aware of you as an author. So people will buy your new stuff but also have a browse to see what else is in your profile, meaning your older files dont lose sales. The more time you spend in the community the more recognised as an author you become, it all helps.

So i would say that to see the benefits of it you do need to put the time in. There are those that have uploaded a small handful of files and have been extremely successful from them but they are few and far between, the majority of success has come from people who have had a steady stream of uploads of high quality files IMO

Stick with it, keep getting your name pushed forwards :)

I’m also relatively new, but the pattern with my six files seems to be:

A couple have hardly sold much at all

A couple continually tick over at a regular pace – even after 8 months.

One new one (2 months old) is doing quite nicely thankyou. However this is still on the first page of Site templates, so it will be interesting to see what happens when it drops off that page.

My conclusion with the ones that maintain sales is that this must be because they have relevant keywords as searching is the great equaliser between old and new files.

my sales have dropped considerably the last 3 months..$59 dollars this month so far..horrid! I even recently submitted quite a nice file that I am actually in the process of redoing.

I’ve only uploaded 2 files in the last 6 months (sad) and over the last 12 months I’ve barely seen any drop. I’m guessing the dropoff is a lot steeper for less unique files. Whenever there’s a new version of something that was unique, I see a drop.

My sales seem to go up and down each month for no apparent reason. It definitely helps to keep uploading files, though. Amazingly, the simplest ideas I’ve had are selling the best, while the sales are low for the more complex files. I’m working on a template right now which will be packed with features, but something tells me I’m overdoing it. If it doesn’t sell, I’m going to make a very simple template.

If a file drops sales after couple of days of upload or after a week, mostly that is due to the fact that it has less life span. But this is what happens for most of the files that doesn’t have special or useful features than similar files. The same can happen if the file is too much out of the box. If you have something unique and still maintaining the usuability /simplicity and covers market’s needs you can observe increase in sales for several weeks upto a reasonable period. So the answer is sales can go both the ways depending solely on how the file works.

As mentioned in above comments, uniqueness of file and uploading new files in the future can contribute extended sales but with my observation from regularly selling files (of mine and other’s portfolios), here are some factors that also contributes lifespan of a file’s sales:

- Adding new features or making the file more flexible in response to buyer comments/requests after upload. This way the possibility to cover wider buyers/projects increases.
- Answering questions in the comments area and keeping that page alive.
- Maintaining and improving a list of FAQ . That really promises the buyers that they already have solutions for after purchase questions/problems.

The answer is very simple.

Unless you have the most spectacular, unique, useful, versatile and best looking item ever greated at the most ridicolously cheap price, prepare to lose practically all your sales once your item drops from the front page.

Then you will have a couple sales here and then when people stumble across your file by browsing through the categories manually or doing a search (very unlikely). It won’t be worth to mention it. Just consider all old files dead and redundant.

Uploading new files is a good idea, but only the new file will get all the attention during it’s time on the front page. You might get lucky and someone checks out the other files you have created. Out of those, perhaps one or two people might even buy another item of yours as well.

It is also very hard to generate addtional marketing and promote your product off and online. For example if you promote your item on other websites with links to the FlashDen sales page, most people will be turned off by the fact that they have to sign-up to FlashDen before they can purchase the item. They will just turn away.

Unfortunetely there isn’t a way for people to purchase the item directly without having to go through this painstaking process.
