Shameless self promotion seeing as i got absolutely 0 exposure over the weekend and i dont think anyone actually saw my file go online, it was off the homepage and down to page 2 in the files within a matter of hours, and with the effort i put into this one with a demo video etc i thought it was unfair.

Yeah, I recently decided that maybe the whole idea about the “RECENTLY SUBMITTED ITEMS ” on the home page was just a bad idea anyway. There are nothing but complaints about it from authors. And it makes the customers lazy and reliant upon how to easily it is to acquire new files without taking the time to think about what would be better and possibly more suitable for their project criteria. I say just take the whole RECENTLY SUBMITTED ITEMS section off the home page. It would cause members to actually take the time and consideration to carefully search for what they need. DUDE , it would totally result in a more evenly distribution of sales. Just remove it completely.

But then again, I’m pretty sure the only thing that matters are the popular files seeing as how people care about uniqueness enough to buy the same thing that hundreds or sometimes thousands of people have already bought. Totally demeans the concept about originality. Not an opinion. The obvious speaks for itself. I know its of no concequence to Envato, but I’m thinking about just getting a job and completely abandoning web design. I’m getting fed up with my acknowledgements of so many unquestioned and unrealized contradictions that a stock market offers to its customers. To me, it seems the only benefit to the “community” are the profits of money. And I’m definitely positive that Envato appreciates that above all.

I picked my nose.
And I wiped it on my clothes.
At night it glows.
Just like my toes.

Its really neat.
But not good to eat.
And when I bump to the beat.
I wipe it on my feet.

Right now its cold.
Its growing old.
And I’ve been told,
It will grow mold.

I know, I hijacked this thread.

Same thing happened to my favorite file. I immediately started working on another and put a big link to my previous file on the new one’s home page.

To be honest, I think yours is way too good to pass so fast. It should get the exposure it deserves, instead of the stuff that was on in the past few hours (no offense to anyone). I really liked it that there was a cool file on again, but now its gone..

And no, Im not sucking up to anyone :P Some people just deserve the exposure. Take Nicola (P&K) for example, always excited to see a new template, because its a different style. Just like Jays, its new, refreshing, instead of “ah, another banner rotator..” it gives you a “wow, thats cool” feeling.

DS has awesome templates too, but those last preloaders kinda made me go like “what? DS uploaded those? hmm… shame..”, instead of making me go “wow”..

So yea, something needs to be done about the exposure part, but we just have to wait for the new design.. Fingers crossed..

I have a couple suggestions:

1) put a price limit on all recent files. Anything under $5 doesn’t make it. Granted this will kill all preloaders and simple animations but maybe there could be an additional quick link somewhere to these files. This makes sense from a business standpoint as FD makes more money if they sell more higher priced files.

2) one file at a time in the recent section. When I come to FD in search of something I want to see a variety of files from a variety of authors. Not a whole bunch of files from the same guy. This will discourage authors from bulk uploading and should spread things out a but more in terms of file exposure life.

Get rid of the recently uploaded items section. That’s the true way to spread things out a bit more. But then again it would backfire, because then the popular files will get most of the exposure as a result. So I probably just proposed a bad idea. Just canceling out my bad idea.

Cannot believe I missed this file, just what I have been looking for, cheers for adding this link to it.

I think all new files should appear on the front page for a set number of hours, so it is shared equally. I know there will be times when this may cause a back log but I am pretty sure envato will have the data to calculate an average time span to relieve this from happening.
