A few hours ago a file I submitted was approved and I found myself in strong disagreement with the price assigned. So I took what I thought was a sensible course of action. I promptly hit the delete button on the item (a first for me) to disable the file and subsequently contacted support to address the issue. Their response, and I quote (verbatim):
“Thanks for your email. Once you have disabled an item, you are not permitted to resubmit that item again for sale. For future instances, if you are not satisfied with the price given for one of your items, you will need to contact support like you have done now, and support will have your files price reviewed.”
That bit about not being able to resubmit an item caught me off-guard and just to be thorough I checked the FAQs section to see if it had been updated to reflect this “no-resubmit” policy. Eventually I found the following entry under the Selling tab of the FAQs How do I remove files and what happens when I do? and it reads (as of this writing 6-22-2009 8:04am EST ) as follows:
“If you wish to remove your own file you can do this through your Portfolio page. Once you have opted to remove the file, it will continue to be displayed for sale for 30 days. After 30 days the file will be removed. You will continue to earn the usual percentage of any sales that take place during this time.”
Not a word of the “no-resubmit” policy to be found.
Had I known that deleting a file meant it would become ineligible for re-submission I might have taken a different course of action or at the very least been able to make a more informed decision. It’s been said before but I think it need to be said again…please update the FAQs section.
I agree that the FAQ does need updating slightly, however, if you read ‘what to do if you disagree with the price’ nowhere does it give you the advice to take such drastic action as to delete your own file. It asks you to contact support so that they can act on it on your behalf. Unfortunately your reaction was more than hasty and now your suffering the consequences of it.
Deleting a file has always meant no re-submission but I do agree that this needs to be made more clear to authors to avoid future instances like this taking place.

I knew about this, I cant remember where I read it but I am aware of it so it must have either been mentioned or written somewhere…

It’s not about what the FAQ doesn’t tell you but what it should tell you. Lack of transparency is always bad form when doing business.

I thought deleting a file and resubmitting it was not allowed to prevent authors from gaining exposure; which doesn’t seem relevant in this case.

Deleting and resubmitting isnt allowed, full stop.
If you are unhappy with a price, contact support as stated in the FAQ , dont delete your file because then you wont be allowed to resubmit it.

As stated after the fact, where before I had no idea that such a policy existed with no official documentation to show that it did… don’t you just love the irony
.
I’ll chalk this one up as a loss for my team but I hope the support staff makes an effort to address this issue to avoid “future instances” like this one.

As others stated here, I agree, that deleting your item is a bit drastic to get the price adjusted, when an email will have sufficed. But I do agree that because its not specifically stated in the FAQ ’s or agreement, its something that would be hard to enforce.
Don’t chalk it up as a loss. Just contact support and explain the situation, I’m sure they will allow you to re-upload your file this one time, and will also then update the info pages to show this very important rule. This rule prevents people from deleting old files and re-uploading to regain more exposure so it is a sound policy.
I’m sure support will help you out on this one, but in the future, read the policies first, because it does clearly state how to request a price change.

It couldn’t have been that bad a price change that you needed to make sure no one bought it so you didn’t make a loss. Dramatic.
