+1 cool
It’s a cool idea, but I can’t help but wonder, what item is featured while under the “All” category (i.e., when a visitor first arrives on the site)? Is that item more featured than those that are featured items in actual categories?

I agree it might be a little tricky. Personally I’d like to see some resemblance of the “Files of the Week” brought back to life.
http://web.archive.org/web/20090627202302/http://blog.flashden.net/general/flashden-files-of-the-week-10/It was a small selection of the best files uploaded that particular week. More work for Envato I guess to comb through all the files, but maybe there could be some type of system where a reviewer can easily suggest an item they’ve reviewed for the list, which would probably make creating a final list a little easier.
Then there could be a new link next to the categories that says “picks of the week” or something. And it could just take the user to a “public collection” of the list.

Probably Ruby’s .sample for Envato, but yeah, that would probably work. There would still be a need to make it known that clicking on other categories will show more featured items. Explicitly stating that might look a little weird.
wondering.. will this DzincStudio’s great idea accepted and applied soon?

Cool !
Oh Yes – that’s a great idea +1000
