Does anyone else feel a bit disturbed by this ‘slider’ trend that covers almost every single theme on themeforest. Some types of content don’t need huge images but there they are sliders on most themes. very few do not have sliders, and no new ones really seem to.

I’m just asking, does no slider = auto rejection now? or is it so trendy that everyone just includes it anyway.

I didn’t use common slider on my latest template (although i include a section with one, because i felt like some customers are so used to them that would affect sales in case of complete missing) and that doesn’t mean rejection at all. In fact, i think there is a nice niche for templates with another “feeling” than the common menu/slider/content we are used to see here.

well we all know mike likes to be difficult, but point taken. I do find his work to be some of the best on TF.

I dislike sliders, though it’s always good to leave the option for those that want it.

Consider the average consumer, as most do.

But no, that’s not the point of rejection. Show off the design and we’ll be able to give you some idea ;)

You can… you know… disable the slider. Can you flip a switch and have a fully functioning slider in a theme that doesn’t support it, though? Nope.

Yea, I think the idea is that a lot of people want slides and for most themes it is optional. This way sellers can make sales from people that want sliders and people that do not ;)

Before the stock era, that section used to have static image (mostly original product / company photos) + caption combo (mostly collaged) to make that area impressive with designers touch. Template monster set a trend of having stock photos there with some Flash gimmicks. Later with abundance of Stock sliders, it became the area of 99% stock content with less truth and soul and blind formality. :P

I guess atleast the responsive / mobile trend will help removal of “extra fat for formality” elements from websites.
