Hi Chaps and Chapesses,

I was thinking about making a little tut about something or other and I thought I’d ask the question:

What would Videohive authors most like to see a tutorial about?

What is the most mysterious or puzzling thing about After Effects?

What is the stumbling block that you always seem to trip over?

Is it expressions, memory management, keyframing tricks, project structure or something completely different?

My rendering tut has been pretty popular, so I was thinking….

I got one

a composition with 3-4 nested pre-comps and a camera that controls the main comp. I need to have collapse transformations on for almost all of the precomps.. When I rotate the camera I see that some of the elements do not move in 3D space. When I purge they appear as expected. This happens with CS3 , CS4 and CS5 . No FX added on the comps that have collapse transformations .. When I render it is fine but while I work it is very annoying and most of the time I guess how it would look.. or just hit purge every 10 secs…

I realize this is kinda specific and it is not likely to see a tut about it BUT your help woulbe be much appreciated.. or anyone else’s.

If you’ve got an aep with a demonstration, send me a link….actually, wait for a couple of days as I’m having some email problems. :)

I have always found recursive collapse transformations a touch unpredictable. I seem to remember that I’ve seen the 3D layer order going wrong sometimes.

This is an interesting thread for me, too.

I don’t want to steal thunder from Felt_Tips, but I’d be curious to know if there’s anything that we need to add to our FAQ list: http://forums.adobe.com/community/aftereffects_general_discussion/faq

The most common question i get and i think most of the other authors here as well are people that don’t know why they are are getting CC FX errors when opening a project.

I see you added it inside the ””FAQ: Why don’t I have some effects or codecs in my After Effects installation? ” section. But i think that 99% of people that miss effects are Cycore FX, maybe throwing CC in the title? Just a minor thought.

To Felt,

You already made a nice animation tutorial with easing keyframe animation and how to use them, maybe make one focused on seamless camera moves? Just suggesting because i failed to find good ones when i was learning AE, and i kind of learned it by myself hit&missing, not even sure i do it correctly. I think it is one that isn’t explained thoroughly, although i haven’t scoured the web on it so i might be prejudicing.

I think Expressions one of the most underutilized tools for many AE artists (including me). I think sometimes the feeling is that it looks so complicated that no one really knows where to begin and then just find (time consuming) ways to get around their problem.

But smooth camera moves tut might be nice too.

@Happy.

Expressions is a big topic. Is there a specific thing you’d like to be able to do with expressions? I think it’s always good to have a specific goal for a tut.

Maybe, “the ten coolest three line expressions” or something like that?
