Hi all,

a day or two ago there was a little discusion at the comments of an item if it was a new file or not.

Now my question, when is a file a new file? it was about that it was a file where only some colors and animations changed and nothing more, is it a new file then? and so can you upload it again?

for the good of FD i think all authors should strive towards offering unique, high quality files. There is a trend at the moment where some authors are releasing multiple versions of the same file, with only a very small amount of difference. Personally i don`t like this as the buyer has to pay again and again for only very small improvements. It also a rather cheap attempt at self promotion.

Yes, Actually there is a loss in uploading improved versions through separate postings. The sales count goes splitted and chance of displaying forward in search result goes off. Also the chance of being popular list reduces. Finally all the separate versions will hide behind the search results. To make it visible for atleast 2-3 days, the auther should post another version…vicious circle :P

It’s true. Posting multiple ‘clones’ is counter productive. Believe me… I’ve tried it!

I strive to make unique files now. And they sell substantially better. Better to have 2 good, unique files that took you 3 weeks to make each, than to pump out 10 or 15 files that are crap or too similar.

I think you are right if you have some quality files you sell much better then if you have a lot of medium/low quality files

Although you may have one Great file and people may want it in a different layout. There are a few site templates that are very similar but are layed out slightly differently than there previous versions. (No Names) I.E horizontal menu instead of verticle. And soem buyers might like that option if they are not capable of doing it themselves.

In this case the same file should include all slightly different versions and themes (Horizontal, Vertical, Different colors, one feature more/less). It will certainly sell better that way.

Yeah true that would make the template better, and probably give it more value if done well!

Then include all the variation with small modifications in one package rather than upload a same file with minor change.
