Alesis Monitor One MKI . Big, old and and very honest!![]()
Your mixes sound amazing, so maybe I should get a pair of of those!
Either that, or some new ears, but the former is easier I think.
Haha, well thank you Taco! But yes, the Monitor Ones definitely play a big part in getting my mixes right. They are incredibly accurate and don’t colour the sound. What you hear, is pretty much what you get. I still cross reference using a set of AKG K271s, some iPod headphones and a couple of cheap hifi units, but you can still rely on the M1s without mixes sounding wrong elsewhere.
I`m using Axelvox TR55A monitors. It sounds very detailed and clean. Especially after my previous Microlab Solo-1. And headphones Axelvox HD 271 . It`s only for recording and extra monitoring.
1+ for the m audio bx5a deluxe monitors. Price/qualtiy is very high and since my studio is not yet acousticly treated I don’t think more expensive ones would do a big difference
Yamaha NS10 ’s and Adam P11a’s.

Good job!
Neumann KH 120s. These are a very recent addition so all but a couple of tracks in my portfolio were done using Mackie MR5s or (for the really early stuff) M-Audio Studiophiles. I don’t know how to best describe the Neumanns except that I can hear a lot more detail than I was hearing with the MR5s, and as far as I can tell nothing seems hyped whereas I always had to do a lot of guesswork in the lows and low mids with the MR5s.
That said, it’s really just one tool in the chain, and although it’s easier to mix now it’s not a magic bullet (and there are a few tunes I did early on with these speakers that I want to go back and remix now). The biggest obstacles I have are a non-optimal room (working on this, but it will be a while) and the limitations of my ears and production skills, which is a continual journey of slow improvement.
simaudio, if you’re listening in, you’ll be happy to hear that I finally got the MoPADs you recommended
. Looks like they’re made of about the same Auralex foam block I had been using as makeshift isolation pads, but they look a lot nicer and, more importantly, they allowed me to optimize the angle of the speakers a lot better for my ears. I highly recommend them.

Nice one Joel, i’m glad to hear the good news
They definitely stand up to the weight of my Krk RP8 ’s and they are a lump.
