I don’t mean to burst all of your bubbles, but this won’t happen in a long time. Sadly, even though I truly respect, admire and generally like the Envato staff, there are things going on which don’t fit my though-process.

How can a ridiculous feature such as text below an avatar be implemented before the never-coming improved rating, commenting and support system. Sure, you will tell me such a feature doesn’t take time, so we can do that right now as we work on the bigger features. Well, the problem with that is, in 3 years, the “bigger” feature(s) has not come because of these increasingly stacking little features.

What happened to the improved ratings, commenting and support system? To the mind-boggling formatting of the forums and comments areas? To the useful search system? To the less-important yet also highly requested features such as being able to see all of your followers, getting a (descent) ratings overview, being able to inform your buyers of updates (yes, yes, privacy; guess what, emails could be mirrored so that we, authors, do not directly send nor see buyers’ emails), and oh so much more..

A simple look at the forums throughout the years gives you an insight of how many requested, useful features were never implemented. What is so special about implementing features that we didn’t even request? Text below avatars? Re-rating for buyers? ...

Please take these words as words of advice. I cannot truly complain about this company because it is great in itself, it pays my bills, and it has a great spirit. But get your papers straight! We would all truly appreciate it.

Sincerely.

Perhaps we should start being more vocal and get this ball rolling. It’s not just about a cart.

The cart conversation has come up a few times over the years. Some of you must remember. Mostly in relation to the referral program, and how it would end up ‘costing’ too much. That’s a pretty touchy subject though… We should all (authors, buyers, devs, admins, etc) be pushing for the features that result in not only a better shopping (and selling) experience, but things that actually surpass the experiences found elsewhere, not trying to add what everyone else has had for ages. We are supposed to be in the business of building a stronger relationships and sense of community than the competition provides

I honestly believe that we would all be willing to sacrifice a few new forum badges, font updates and social network connections in exchange for better search, better analytics, better customer communication tools or any of the other many often discussed items that have circulated for the last couple years here in this forum. These threads are needed, but should take place in an authors only setting, with this kind of back and forth. It is pretty rare that the question is actually posed to the customer, who should be weighing in on this stuff. I know he’s an elite author and all, but jonathan01 is a customer too and I feel that this kind of feedback should be welcomed and valued by the community rather than prompting negativity and bickering.

A shopping cart would not deter me (or most folks for that matter) from making a single item purchase. And it is a feature that does make sense for more than just PhotoDune. AudioJungle sells sound effects, interface sounds and other small files that are commonly purchased in bunches. What about GraphicRiver? We could make similar arguments about a lot of features like this though, and have.

Alright. I’ll let you guys get back to the pyramid now. :bigwink:

Cart is still in the pipeline :) We’re aware how super useful it would be, it needs to be implemented well though.

In terms of popularity the network has grown considerably in the last 2 years (look at how recently we crossed 1,000,000 members and now we’re almost at 1.5 mill!). So a lot of the dev projects that have been worked on in this time have been focused on optimisation and making sure that we can support the growth, laying infrastructure for the future of the Marketplaces. There have been a lot of necessary backend changes being made, which has meant that from your perspectives it probably seems like we’re not doing all that much, which I can assure you is far from the case. The good news is that it’s my understanding we’re approaching a point where we will have the capacity and necessary infrastructure with the sites to start pushing out oft-requested features soon, with the added bonus of the sites being able to cope with growth! :)

Keep in mind that those badges, font updates and social networking connections take a very small amount of preparation to push out compared to the alternatives suggested. But I still get how it must seem from the outside. Just remember we want the best for the sites too and we agree that there’s a lot we need to do and generally speaking we all have similar ideas about what features need improvement or to be implemented :)

didn’t you say this last year about a few features(particularly item comments aka support forums).... problem is everything you guys say is “its in the pipeline” without give authors any information or timeframe so to me and many others its sounds like complete bs, theres no real communication between Envato and authors
