XML question

Hope someone can give me an answer on this. One of my files is a straightforward accordion that loads in either images or swfs on the tabs. Works like a charm. Now someone bought it and ran into a problem, that I hadn’t thought about. The swf he loaded on one of the tabs of the accordion loaded in images of itself via another XML file. So let’s say XML upon XML . His swf that loads in images via XML works perfectly on its own, but when I load in that swf via XML into my accordion, his swf does not display the images loaded in anymore. I hope I’m still clear here.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have such a construction?

btw I made a simple swf of my own that loads in one png file. And tried to load in that swf into my accordion via XML and that didn’t work either. I’m guessing it’s just not possible. Can anyone verify this?

Is the other swf (and its xml file) in a different folder than the accordion swf?

The reason I asked is that the externally loaded swf will use the folder in which the main swf resides as its start folder for any relative paths it references, not the folder in which it resides itself (as it would when run as a standalone) This applies to both the path it uses to find the XML file and the path it uses for the image urls it finds in the xml file.

But it should be simple enough to find where it is failing by running from Flash and putting trace statements in at the place where the URLs are used to examine what they contain. And if you need to test outside of Flash or on the server just put temporary dynamic textfields on the stage which you can update with the path names as they are used.

What you want to do is certainly possible, and is done done in many templates.

it is possible to do, people do it with my templates plenty, like tinman said, the loaded swf will load files from the swf that loaded it, so watch the path.

Other than that make sure the loaded swf doesn’t have any errors throwing that are stopping the swf from working when loaded externally (such as using stage before the loaded swf is added to the parent swf’s stage, that’s a common one, see this)
