YES THIS IS A RANT - If You Sell Files On This Site -Be Mature - Please Offer Basic Read Me Files

I truly dont care if this upsets anyone on here – I have had a nightmare of an experience this week with this site and I am going to rant…

I am a web designer and developer – so I do appreciate the fact that flash developers work hard.

I develop and sell wordpress themes – So I also understand what it’s like to sell files to people who don’t have the same skills and end up having questions. I promise you people who purchase wordpress themes have less skills than those of us buying your files on here.

I solve this with one simple step READ ME FILES and SETUP INSTRUCTIONS .

I make it part of EVERY THEME and I truly rarely get contacted for support.

- your file is awesome – I have purchased it twice – and sent it to my boss at my marketing firm who purchased multiple license versions and will continue to purchase it. We now buy it everytime we need a slideshow. You provided an awesome read me file and answered basic setup questions with no issues. Because he took two seconds to provide info – he will continue to make money off of me and anyone i refer him too.

Now to the developers on here that are arrogant – rude…

If You’re Selling Files on here – Please Offer Basic Read Me Files – and Be Mature when people ask basic questions – You are taking our money so don’t act like it’s this huge inconvenience to offer simple support and basic read me files. Even though you don’t make a ton per download – if you would make your files user friendly and don’t act like arrogant jerks – you get multiple downloads – it’s basic sales – and if we pay money and need to be a flash developer just to install it – why would we come here?? If I coded flash – I would build my own file.

Don’t get me wrong – I FULLY understand you want to charge for customizations – of course! I would never argue that. but when you act like informing people of the basic steps to install it???!

WHO ARE YOU KIDDING ?!

That’s like selling a car without keys and telling someone to hotwire it to get themselves home.

This week I have needed to purchase A Horizontal Menu Scroller.

I first Purchased This…

It is promoted as WELL DOCUMENTED – yet includes ZERO setup or install info. This also boasts as highly customizable – but all you can do in the XML is change the thumbnails – you have to know flash just to add urls. This also has a horrible margin issue you have to know flash to fix.

Their forums and comment section is filled with tons of people with the exact same complaints I have and this company offers ZERO tech support – in fact they just never respond.

WASTE OF MONEY

So I then purchase this…

Does not even include a read me file at all. I know how to upload files and install basic scripts – but this was not working in a basic wordpress theme. It took 3 emails and 2 forums to get this guy to respond with “i dont know anything about wordpress. sorry.” and thats it.

Envato refunded this for me because they reviewed the file and saw the complete lack of any documentation for install.

So here’s the last and best one..

And this guy literally states in his read me that he didn’t feel like publishing an example so we can go figure it out ourselves?!?

I DO NOT CODE FLASH OR PUBLISH FLASH – THAT IS WHY I PAY FOR YOUR SCRIPTS !!!!!!

I contacted this developer asking for 1 simple thing… the published example – lets be honest – this would take him 10 minutes of his life to include and never have to answer emails about it again…

SO this was his amazing one line response to my request for basic install info…

If I hear this…

“I don’t make enough off these files to offer a basic read me file”

If this is your attitude – WHY ARE YOU HERE ? – read me files of the BASIC INSTALL CODE take 10 minutes. Get Real.

The people from ENVATO are AWESOME – they have provided you with a way to sell for files in mass and you are acting like a bunch of spoiled $85.00 t0 $150.00 per hour brats and making their site look bad. I promise you people don’t come here because of the crappy support and documentation. You would make more money if you gave this site a good name!!!

If you guys are so skilled that you charge that much – you should be fully capable of a 1 paragraph READ ME file. Do you not understand that people would email you half as much if you would just take the ten minutes to do it???

If you feel you can argue with the request for a basic read me file – you are kidding yourself -

Sorry to hear of your bad experience you have recieved from this marketplace so far.

I sympothize with your situation, but would urge you to not give up on all of the authors on this site based on your experiences with a small population of people.

Majority of authors, myself included, pride ourselves on the documentation, customization and support that we offer for our files.

Stick with it as there are some great files and people here

Well, I agree with you, totally agree with the documentation. Yet you are forgetting something. You’re paying 40$ for something that usually costs 1k $ + ... so I would agree with persons who don’t offer support. I for one write like a nutcase. I love to keep it perfect for buyers. But this is not to my attitude to decide. Each author has his own way of doing things.
