You can change the text content for these fields in the FLA file in Flash. If you need additional help, e-mail me at the address on my profile page.

I am looking for a countdown timer that will have the counter reset automatically every 24 hours from the time I put in there. Is this something that you could do for me if I purchased this it?

Thanks, Adam

Sure – that shouldn’t be a problem. I will need to charge you for custom work at my standard hourly billing rate. E-mail me from my profile page if you want to discuss this further.

Is there anyway to embed the xml in the Flash document, so that when I export the swf, the file works without an external xml file? I do love this countdown.

Or, is there a way in the Actionscript to call the xml file from a server – here perhaps (var xml:XML = new XML ;), have it be called from a url? Because I could upload the xml file and give it a specific url.

Thank you! Amy

AmyNYC – Calling the XML file from another URL location will require a cross-domain policy file. See http://www.adobe.com/devnet/articles/crossdomain_policy_file_spec.html

Alternatively, you CAN hardcode the XML variables directly into the SWF and not load the XML at all. This will require making modifications to the FLA file in Flash. (You will need to focus in on code lines 36 through 77.)

Aeris T, Which do you recommend? The xml file itself is very simple. I just need whatever is easiest since I’m not a programmer. I have bought the file and am trying to give the xml file an absolute path on line 78 “xml.load” But that doesn’t work. Thanks, Amy

Is there any plan to have the countdown reset every 24 hours so it can be used for a 1 day only sale site like Califgrafx requested above? If this can do it I will buy immediately …

Thanks,

Steve

This component has been set up to link to a URL when the countdown is complete. If you want to change the functionality, we will need to customize the file in the source FLA . I am happy to help you with customizations at my standard hourly billing rate. Please e-mail me if you want to discuss this further.

I bought this about a year ago. I intended to use it, but found it challenging to use on a WordPress site.

My web programmers set something up for me, but it was not exactly what I had in mind and it was rather confusing why it did not work in WordPress.

I read about something to have the file in the same page as the page itself with the XML and FLA files. This is NOT how my programmers set it up and told me I had to have a different folder on my server for each page and timer I wanted to run (not that I run many timers at once).

Can this work on WordPress without any serious challenges for non tech minded entrepreneur. I am familiar with CS4 AfterEffects, PSD , AI, but not Flash, but learn Adobe products fast.

Thanks for your help and a great timer.

Can’t wait to use this on my new launch.

Patrick.

Patrick: I don’t foresee any problems with using this on a WordPress site. It sounds like the main issue you were having was with specifying the correct relative URL path to the XML file. This can get a little confusing when you start organizing things into subfolders on your server. If needed, the path to the XML can be changed in the FLA source file and a new SWF republished.

If you are using multiple timers, you may want to consider adding code to allow the XML path to be passed via Flashvars at runtime. That way, you could specify different paths to unique XML files for each timer embedded.

I have a question about setting the time. I understand the adjustment for UTC , but what if the local end time caused the UTC time to be after midnight? Example: the event is on June 2 at 11:00PM Eastern Standard Time, so the UTC time would be 04:00 AM on June 3, so does the date field in the XML file adjust for the after midnight time? Given the previous example would I set the date in the XML file to June 2, or June 3?

Enter the date correctly (in your example, June 2). Only make UTC time adjustments to the hour. In your example 11 PM = 23. So add your UTC adjustment (+5) to 23 to get 28. Don’t be concerned that this number is larger than 24 – just enter it as 28 and it will work fine. The program compensates for this.
