Advanced 2 stage portfolio - XML

Hi There geodeath, great work here by the way – I am interested in purchasing this file, is there any chance of an AS3 version in the near future or should I not hold my breath? Thanks – am keen either way!

Have a question about modification of this file and if it will work w/o major code before I buy? First, this in my opinion one of the better portfolio files i have viewed. I am looking for something more modular and would like to know if the file is set up in single .swf files that can be loaded like a module into another full site. If so would the file be able to have a fixed size like 800×600 for instance. I understand fully a fixed file in a browser window but I am looking for it not to resize when loaded into a .swf file. If not you should think about making a modular file for sale that does just this. Thanks.

@slicedcheese: no, there is no as3 version coming, sorry!

@okie77: i always think about my files like that, because a lot of people (me included) load other swf files to do what we want. You can do it with this file, no problem. It just has a repositioning code part which will need to be edited and you will have to place everything manually where you want them to. Its not even a big task, just move things around where you want them to, comment out the positioning code, resize things as you like… You are pretty much at freedom!

Hey geodeath, you have a great product, it works really well….. I have a question, could you tell me what the url link is, to the Menu Scrolling List. When you click on MENU it takes you to the Scrolling List, can you put a another link directly to that page, from the Home page Slide Show PAGE .

its not easy to add a link like that. Its not about giving you the link, its about the scolling menu not “being there”. It requires serious modification and it needs good flash knowledge to add the menu there as well

I’m interested in purchasing. I would like to use your product to display a web design portfolio. Considering I want to provide a little information about the websites and a link, I like the layout of “flash & video” section because of the column for text. Can the flash videos be substituted with images? Does it have the capabilities to put links in the text column (not the text below but the text to the right of the flash video)?

Hi, sorry for the late reply, i was on vacation. The video player is actually another fla file in which you can pretty much do anything you wantm just not through xml, because they are a different file and need editing in flash. Which means that you can substitute images with videos and vice versa and also add links as you want

I really love the look of this though I have to admit – the menu architecture / heirarchy is a little weird. It seems the only way to get to the menu (index) is by going first through one of the 4 banners on the opening page. The weird part is that those banner buttons are not really banners, they are other projects. In other words, in order for my customer to see imagery from project 5, they must first go through one of the first four projects just so the “menu” button can become activated.

It tooks me a while to figure out the “flow” and I am certain my prospective customers will be far less patient.

I think having a menu (or ‘index’) on the opening page would make a HUGE difference and also substantially improve the flow. That would also allow folks like me to convert those 4 opening projects to something like “top picks”.

I would happily pay double the asking price if it had this functionality

as i explained to lot of buyers or presales questions here, these banners act exactly as “top picks”. The reason it is designed like that, is that its very plain and simple and not have lots of buttons/interaction. Would there be lots of interest for this feature, i might add it or made it an additional file because this is what this file is supposed to be; Plain and simple frontpage, which hides the complexity of a multiple categories & projects viewer. Might even add videos in the new version if it sounds like its needed.

Actually, I toyed with a few options and ended up updating the four starting thumbnails to”year banners” instead of “service banners”. In other words, when you log in you see [2009], [2008], [2007], [2006 and Later].

This approach will let me keep all of the art for any one project grouped together in one continuous flow. Under this grouping, your tool will be absolutely perfect.
