Now in site template form
The Table of contents utility is included in my latest site template, which at the bargain price of $20 makes it an attractive upsell from the basic Table of contents utility. Check out the Minimalist, versatile, corporate site template
This utility automatically generates a list of buttons based on headings that are in a textfield that you specify. When each button is clicked, the textfield jumps to the correct place in the text. This is a very user friendly way to give your users quick access to content that they may otherwise miss or not bother scrolling down to see.
Implementing is very easy – all you need to specify is the textfield you want to produce the table of contents for, the tag that you have used to specify the headings and a bit of marker text that the TOC utility uses to mark the location of the headings (don’t worry though, this marker text is never seen by the user).
This table of contents utility is a bit like having named anchors on a html page, and like with html, you can also link to your sections from within the text itself using a simple “asfunction” (link event in AS3 ). So you can have a “top” link below each section to let people jump back up to the start.
I decided to make this useful little item after having to scroll down through many menus on restaurant sites built with flash… basically I just wanted to know what the desserts were like
And while you’re here, why not check out some more of my other work
