Nice work! I would add some background highlights (light flicker) for a more dramatic effect.

Can the background be changed?

of course. Simply edit the “bkgrnd” layer.

i think the animation is kind of too short to be stimulating to the eye. Try extending the movement of the flame to more than just two movements

My goal was to simply create a simple animation that was small in file size and smooth. This was a study for me while I learned about shape tweens. I can see what you mean, but I think I achieved my goal.
