Hi fox!

The thumbnails are created automatically. A default height for the thumbnails (the height seen in the preview) is provided, but you can easily change their size in the XML with one setting.

Nice work. Can swfs be used?

Thanks rckeeler! In answer to your question: no, SWFs cannot be used. The gallery does a lot of things specific to images such as retrieve image metadata, and create a thumbnail automatically. Since these features play a key role in the design of the gallery, it was written with that focus in mind.

Hi, Could I easily change the option to be displayed desaturated until mouseover to making the thumb scale up slightly when mouseover? Also is it easy to turn off components such as menus and metadata for a very minimal look that would just have the thumb scroll and the large image frame? Thanks Sylvie

Hi sylvierogers! In answer to your questions…

Yes, you can turn off the pullout metadata/description menu entirely.

By default, you cannot hide the menu up top. Both this and having the thumbnails scale instead of desaturated would require code changes. That being said, they would be fairly simple changes and we could implement them for you were you to purchase. If you chose to go that route, then just e-mail us from the contact form on our profile page after purchasing and we can make those modifications for you.

Hey Modulus,

first off thank you for all the quick replies, very good customer service.

I am really new to all of this and am attempting to put a site together lol I will try to not ask the very noob questions here.

Is there a option to mak it so that once your mouse leaves the borders of the picture it dose not pan or tilt what your looking at on the image?

Also in relation to the tabs I know you stated that the size was editable but can you also font or the gray texture with something else? either some kind of .png file or maybe just transparent? From what I read it seems to be a VERY editable file ,other than no .swf files but that dose not bother me, and I am inclined to think you can edit all of that but wanted to ask :)

Thank you,

Matt

P.S. – I to would be intrested in maybe a saturation effect or maybe a opacity or fade on the thumbnails scaling up but not sure how it would look lol so maybe better to leave it as it is.

Hi Matt,

To answer your questions, currently the scrolling on the image is essentially stage bound so it’s always on except for when you are over the top or bottom navigation areas. If you were to buy the gallery, we’ll be glad to work with you and see about modifying it.

As far as the top navigation is concerned, it is currently being drawn with the graphics API and CSS . You can easily change all colors without any problems. Making the top buttons transparent would be an easy modification as well. Loading a custom art piece would be a little more involved but certainly something that we could do as well. Hope that helps and thanks for checking out the Hi-Res Image Gallery.

Thanks modulus for the fast reply,

1. Would it be possible to feed directy premade thumbnails rather than having them generated.. would that be an option?

2. And in reply to your earlier reply – thanks for offering to make those changes – are they changes I could make myself if i learnt enough as3 or are they locked inside components so that i couldn’t change the as3 directly?

Regards Sylvie

Hi sylvierogers,

As it’s setup right now, we don’t have an option to feed manual thumbs into the gallery. I’d have to consult with my partner in crime here at Modulus, but that doesn’t sound like an unreasonable thing to do.

As far as the code is concerned, if you’re fairly familiar with AS3 , you could certainly make code changes yourself if you so desired. We don’t use components that are locked away from our buyers. Most of the more complicated pieces we develop are created in AS3 classes where you can easily modify it yourself depending on your comfort level with AS3 .

Thanks! The offer of course still stands, we’ll be glad to help you with modifications as well.

Hi Modulus.

Love your gallery and going to purchase it. But I would like to know:

1) if is possible, and how, to have a next/prev arrows on the right/left side of the browser to navigate the images.

Thank in advance for your reply.

Hi nuburea,

By default, there aren’t next and previous arrows, but it’d be very easy to put them in. They’d just use the same code being used for keyboard and mouse wheel controls. :) If you were to purchase the gallery, just send us an e-mail from the contact form on our profile page and we’d be happy to set it up for you.

Hi,

Thanks for a great looking gallery which directs focus to the importance of maintaining and displaying metadata.

Now, I have a rather geeky question.

The gallery extracts metadata perfectly from regular JPGs. However, I always shoot in RAW , and extract the JPG from the RAW file using a command line application called Exiftool. I use the same app to write the exif information from the RAW to the extracted JPG .

Having done so, the exif does display when inspecting the file, meaning it is actually embedded. However, it does not show in the gallery. I realize this is a pretty unordinary approach to writing metadata, but do you by any chance know why it won’t display in the gallery?

Thank you in advance.

Hi espenn,

Do you have Photoshop by chance? If you do, can you look at the metadata in Photoshop (File>FileInfo) and see if it’s displaying in there properly. I don’t have any experience with the tool that you used. I also shoot in RAW format as well. I’ll try to do a little research on your specific tool and try to figure out what’s happening. If you can, please let us know if Photoshop, or a third party photo package is displaying the exif data properly. That will help isolate the problem.

Thanks!

Hi Modulus,

Photoshop, Bridge and Preview all display the data. Strangely, I just found out opening the photos in Photoshop (without even modifying or saving any changes) does the works! It doesn’t make any sense at all to me as I’ve simply just opened and closed the files in Photoshop, but at least it now displays the metadata.

Exiftool is great for automated batch processing of metadata changes you want to make in a large amount of files, so it saves me a lot of time.

Thank you again for a great gallery and I appreciate your support.

Hi styria,

Thanks! Yes it is possible to get the image directly from the gallery. There’s a breakout tab/button that will open the current image in its own window. Just the image, no Flash stuff, so users can save the image if they’d like.

You can see the button I’m talking about in the preview. It’s the white, square symbol that appears in the lower-left of the image viewer. :)

Hi styria,

Good catch, there. It would appear that’s a small oversight on our part. We’ll have it corrected and upload the update later today. In the meantime, please feel free to e-mail us from the contact form on our profile page and we’ll e-mail you the update so you don’t have to wait for it to go through the queue on ActiveDen. :)

This was SO close to being exactly what I needed. I am both a fine artist and a 3D artist and need all of the details of the gallery metadata, but also the ability to play SWF files. Good work though! Looks great!

Great gallery ! I have two questions, I am new to design and have hit a few walls that my client would like done. 1. Is it possible to resize the entire gallery, I have a section that it is meant for and need it that perfect size.

2. I am creating this website fully in flash, and have to import the swf into the flash project, but when I test it it shows me the raw file from the fla. Is there anyway that I can import it?

Thank you so much for you time.
