image logo shiner effect

I’m kind of baffled how people got this to work in AS3 . As another poster pointed out I had the same issues regarding “Void”. I was able to get around that by simple changing all instances to lower case “void”.

The next, and bigger issue is duplicateMovieClip which is not part of AS3 anymore (just google “+as3 duplicatemovieclip” and you will see). As of right now, I wasted some money on this because I can’t use it in my AS3 project, unless I’m missing something.

The only person that made a viable attempt at working around the removed duplicateMovieClip functionality that I know of is senocular (http://www.senocular.com/flash/actionscript/?file=ActionScript_3.0/com/senocular/display/duplicateDisplayObject.as). Don’t really want to deal with that though, because it sounds like it has some drawbacks.

I do appreciate the hard work that went into this though.

I have a question, can I set a custom color for the glow? Can I make it be a gradient? And do I have an option to control the glow’s opacity over the “time line”? I mean, can it start glow’s opacity 100% and to end with 0 %?

I think RTL means “Right To Left”

Hi there , your component is great .. But i have a little problem in duplicating the button in AS3 , when it shine (Mouse over) it shows the imageMC and not the new one that i have called imageMC2. and when i change the name in the AS3 from imageMC to imageMC2 it gives me this error :

1180: Call to a possibly undefined method imageMC2.

please help.

you should really OOP this up. the effect is really nice, but it’s a pain in the a** to get it working. and also if you repeat the effect across the project, you’ll end up with a lot of junk repeated code. i managed to transform this into a OOP class, that uses senocular’s duplicate object function. also i got it working with TweenLite, so you can have more control over animation timing and easing. if you (the author) want my improved file so you can study it, drop me a line.

To add an external link to movie clips in flash do this:

1. Duplicate the movie clip in your library for as many buttons as you need.
2. Place an instance of each new movie clip on the stage where you want them.
3. Click on the instance of each movie clip and put the following in your actions tab.

on(release){ getURL(“http://www.yourwebsite.com”); }

That’s it!

(Note: To change the name of each button/movie clip instance I removed the text layer in the movie clip and just placed the text in a new layer on top of the movie clips in the main time line). Saved me a lot of headache.

Do we require any other software to use this, or is Flash CS5 sufficient?

How do I resize so that the swf is the same size as the logo ?

Also, can the background be transparent instead of black ?
