NEW FEATURES – This item was updated on 7/31/2008.
See the “Update History” below for details.
This image gallery is powered by XML , and features the unique ability to preload external images. The gallery has a classic look that will fit the style of any project, and it can hold an infinite number of images. You can also organize photos by placing them into separate folders (infinite as well). Many aspects of the gallery can be customized via the XML file. Navigating through the gallery is easy. You can move one page at at time, skip to the first or last page, and jump to any page by entering the page number.
While looking at an image, there are up to six option buttons that appear beside it. You can visit websites related to the image, contact the photographer of an image, print the image onto paper, and more. Checking out the detail of an image is no problem when you choose to view it in fullscreen mode. The gallery supports fullscreen mode in Flash Player 8 or above, and includes directions on how to tweak the various fullscreen implementations. It even has a simulated fullscreen mode that kicks in, if the true fullscreen mode fails on an older version of the Flash Player.
One of the most useful features is the image preloader. Normally, using external images means waiting for them to load before you can see them. With the preload feature, you can load all of your images at the beginning of the Flash animation. The external images will appear instantly, as if they had been included in the library of the Flash file. Of course, you don’t have to use the preload feature, and the image gallery will gracefully load images on demand as well. Since the main preview doesn’t showcase the preload feature, here are two additional previews:
Additional Preview #1 (preloads thumbnails only)
Additional Preview #2 (preloads all images)
The gallery is specially designed to load animated SWF files in the same way that it loads images. Your other movies will remain interactive, even while inside the gallery. There are also special XML tags for handling SWF files that are masked, or contain some hidden portion of the stage. With the added support of external SWFs, you can turn the image gallery into a multimedia gallery by including your favorite video or music players.
Dimensions of the Flash animation will change to fit the size of the browser window (minimum size is 700×584). The image gallery will also dynamically change appearance, depending on the amount of features that you choose to include. For example, if you don’t use a title, description, or any option buttons on an image, the image will expand to fill up the extra space.
The file includes a PDF that explains every aspect of the image gallery in detail. The Actionscript is well commented.
