How is it not made by me I made the design, and i coded all as i watched the video. I learnt how to do it then applied my own design to it, im sure we all started somewhere? the fact the design is unique and its a fully functional mp3 player is what im selling.

Sorry for trying… & sorry for not being a professional after my first application, but the look of the player is better than some out there which is why i designed it.

You can teach a monkey how to copy a gotoandlearn.com lesson and that would be an achievement.

But for a moderately intelligent person to copy something from gotoandlearn.com well that’s just unoriginal and plagiarism.

Hopefully flashden is a place to showcase original works and inovation not a free copied lesson from the internet.

Wow, never thought I could offend people so much by offering something which I learnt how to create and then added my own design to.

If people are suggesting that I simply copied code then they are wrong, I am new to this world of flash, but I have been using photoshop for a long time, so I’ve took the time to create this mp3 player for myself, and then simply offered it out there to anybody else who might not have had the time to design one themselves or follow through the tutorial. As far as im concerned I havent broken any rules, everything was hand coded by me, although I did learn the code from the website in reference. But I’m not at a level of which I can make my own code yet. Im still in the process of learning, and maybe someday in the future I will hand code my own, but for now im just looking into how to get the basics going (hence the title basic mp3 player) and I will work on modifying & adding featured from this base product.

If people have a problem then fine, but at this point im more interested in learning and developing my skills, and offering my mp3 player to anyone who likes the design than worrying about the fact i dont meet your high standards here at flashden.

Not a great introduction I’ve had to the community, and I dont see why people have a problem with this, but if any admins would like to talk to me about this then I am happy to, but I think too many people are jumping to conclusions at this point.

Hey iam_uk7: (if this makes you feel any better, then I’m happy)

I also just started recently with flash. I was overwhelmed by the complexity of the program at first. I’m also from a PhotoShop background and just as I did tutorials in PhosoShop, I satrted to do some tutorials in Flash. Like you say, you gotta start somewhere! Why did they then put those tutorials online anyway? It’s for people like us to learn. But you’ll see, sooner or later the code will come by itself and you’ll be able to create more unique files. I see you made a sale already, so you must be doing something right dude. Keep it up and keep your files coming!

Putting down others is just simple immaturity. I think the skin is nicely designed, and not as garish as many of the files on Flash Den.

I’ve seen others redesign the skin on the Flash FLV player, and no one is calling that plagiarism.

It’s simple and pleasent on the eyes… IMHO , following tutorials and actually designing your own GUI is not copying. Just because someone wants to learn Flash, and follow tutorials isn’t a bad thing, most of us start at the same position. Well, I didn’t I was actually taught – but even now after 4 yrs of experience I look at some tutorials, because there’s always new ways of coding and designing better, and learning never stops.

One point I did notice with the mp3 player is the actual text, surely that should be a dynamic text field and not with Selectable text enabled. Just a pointer! :)

Nice try though!

I agree with syrusxl, davidmoon and ALV , and don’t understand bitgod aggressiveness… YES he learned to do it somewhere, YES he exactly made the same one (except design), but he made the effort to understand it to be able to reproduce and customize it.

How did you learned AS bitgod ? Did you wake up a morning with all this knowledge in your big brain ? Or did you learn from somebody else, adding your own stuffs to it ? Did you invent “how to do a button” and “how to do a colorpicker” that I can see in your portfolio ? Or did you only learn how to do it from a tutorial or from the flash documentation, reproduce it and customize it ? I’m not mad at you bitgod, you’re certainly a cool person that chases injustice, but don’t judge people that do exactly the same as you do, just because you know where or how they learned.

The mp3 player I did and you can find in my portfolio (buy it! buy it! :) ), started the same place as liam’s. I learned how to do a simple one, that I customized. Then because some people bought it (not on flashden, it didn’t exist yet) to add it on their websites, I upgraded it to this level. It’s entirely dynamic, and doesn’t even need an XML file (PHP does everything). Can you tell me It’s not my work ? Can you tell me that’s plagiarism ? No you can’t (or you’d be a liar), because I just learned.

Can you call me or other people over here “sucker” ? Look at my works and website, look at your button now… and learn, just as Liam is doing.

A last thing (then i shut my mouth, I swear :) ), even if Liam would not have learned and just copy/pasted this player, only flashden admins are valuable to decide it, according to the fact they verify files and according to the legal terms everybody has to read before the first upload. If this file is online, that’s because It can be interesting for someone, and because Liam created something.

Thanks to be respectfull. FULL STOP :)

No you can’t tell it was copied. My question for bitgod is…so if I learned how to design something in Flash from a professor at a university and then made my own updates and changes to it…does that mean i’m copying that professors work?

No it doesn’t….You have taken something you were taught or sought out to learn and have modified that learning to fit your needs. What liam_uk7 did is completely legal and honest.

Obviously bitgod you were born with the knowledge how to do everything in Flash…so you must be the only one on here who is able to sell their products.

Which files, exactly, need to be placed in the remote directory for the mp3 player to work?

I have them all in the same directory on my host, but the player only says “undefined” in the title bar, as if it could not find the songs.xml file which is indeed there.

Thanks

Ok, so I got that issue figured out, but now the question is, how do I get it to not auto-play the mp3s?

Thanks

Interesting discussion here. I am new to both Flash and cg design and have been downloading some files to play with. I find that if you alter it even just a little bit it is now your own design. I Use Tuts to get the idea of how something is done. I tweek files to my liking. I believe this is considered the norm in learning and does not violate any infringement. incidently I chose another mp3 player file from here to learn from it allows me to build my own skins. If I change the skin and resale the file is it stealing. I don’t think so. As I’ve reviewed mp3 players most use pretty much a similar active script coding so there really is no theft in that if one makes a skin that is unique and tweeks the coding for it.

Just curious… How did they know it was from gotoAndLearn.com? The only way is to go onto the site their self. The next question is, why did they go onto the site? Which means chances are they had to google “flash mp3 player TUTORIAL ” it because they, them selves was looking to learn something.

Like I said, I was curious.
