Update December 8th, 2009
- Feature added to allow you to assign a fixed width and height for Razor if you don’t want it using the stage’s dimensions. Ideal for when you want Razor inside of another SWF file (such as a template).
Update October 14, 2009
- You can now add audio to slides! Specify an MP3 to play for the entire slideshow, and/or for individual slides. Control if the audio loops and at what volume it should play.
Update September 27, 2009
- Added options in the XML to control if the index buttons and control buttons auto hide from mouse inactivity (separate setting for each).
- Index buttons and control buttons can be turned on/off separately rather than tied together.
Update September 08, 2009
- A new transition, Tween Stepper, has been added! Tween Stepper allows you to animate your blocks in XML as though you were controlling Tweener directly. Animate position, scale, alpha, rotation, etc… with as many steps (tweens) as you want.
- You can now have rounded corners on your slide show. Control how much curve in the XML .
- An external interface has been set up so that you can change slides from outside of the SWF ! Use HTML and Javascript to go to any slide from a hyperlink on your page. Instructions and an example HTML file included.
- The Grid Reveal transition has two new properties to let you control both vertical and horizontal order of appearance.
Razor XML Slide Studio is your one-stop spot for banners, rotating banners, and image slideshows. Everything is controlled from a single XML file built atop a flexible framework that gives you unprecedented control over how you build your banners. Razor XML Slide Studio is written in AS3 and works with Flash Player 9 and up.
Features
- Supports an infinite number of slides.
- All text styling is controlled through a CSS file you define.
- Control how your slideshow plays with optional looping, randomization/shuffle, auto playing, keyboard controls, and pause/play buttons.
- The controls auto-hide when the user’s mouse isn’t over the slide. They’ll also auto-hide after 4 seconds of inactivity.
- You decide the opacity of the controls when they’re displayed.
- You can even hide all controls if you want and make your slideshow completely automated.
- Optional index buttons are created to let your user quickly jump ahead in a slideshow.
- The index buttons can go in any corner of the slideshow.
- Index buttons will automatically become pannable if there are too many to fit on the screen, so you don’t have to worry about how large your slideshow gets.
- Index buttons can be circles or squares in the color of your choosing, or images you define in the XML . They can be numbered or not, it’s your call!
- You can customize the slideshow’s control system by substituting buttons with images you specify in XML , or go directly into the FLA and swap out graphics.
- Add an optional vignette to your slideshow. Control color and strength of the vignette. Vignette only covers your slide’s image/SWF, leaving any text and additional images unobscured.
- Have an optional watermark on your slideshow! You specify the image, opacity, scale, and position. Watermark only covers your slide’s image/SWF, leaving any text and additional images unobscured.
- Your slideshow can have rounded corners, with you controlling how large of a curve.
- Specify an MP3 file to play during the slideshow. Control if it plays once, or loops indefinitely. Control the volume level at which it plays.
- Change slides from outside of the SWF using hyperlinks and Javascript. We’ve documented how and provide an example.
- Playing time for a slide can be given in fractions of seconds (ex. 1.7) or set to AUTO , which would determine playing time based on the number of words in the slide.
- Slides can display an image or a SWF .
- If the media for a slide isn’t done loading, the user will be given a ‘loading’ screen until the slide is ready. Slides load sequentially and are stored in memory once loaded. If the user clicks ahead through the index, the slide they chose is given loading priority if it hasn’t loaded yet.
- Slides have a customizable background color. You can leave out a slide’s image/SWF altogether and have a blank canvas for text-only slides.
- 21 different transitions you can use, with more being added!
- Transitions can have their settings controlled in the XML , offering a wide range of variations beyond the default 20!!
- Animate scale and opacity of a slide as it plays.
- You can control/animate a panning effect. Coupled with our fade transition and you have a Ken Burns effect!
- An optional URL can be specified for a slide, turning the entire slide into a button that will launch that URL .
- Specify an MP3 file to play when on a specific slide. Control if it loops or not and at what volume it plays.
- Let users know how long until the next slide appears with an optional, pixel-high progress bar that appears at the bottom of the slide. You control color and opacity.
- You can specify global, default values for your slides for a number of settings (such as duration, transition, and animation), saving you time with larger projects.
- Slides can have text and/or additional images and SWFs added to them with optional colored backdrops. These are called ‘blocks’.
- These blocks can use the same transitions slides use!
- Blocks can have delays put on them, giving you precise control on when and how they’re displayed on a slide.
- Have multiple blocks on a slide to easily create layered animations – all done within XML !
- Blocks can be anchored to the side of a slide like a caption, or floating with defined X,Y coordinates.
- Text in blocks support basic HTML tags (such as hyperlinks) and are styled using the slideshow’s CSS file.
- Backdrops for blocks can be any color, any opacity, with full control over stroke/outline. You can even specify rounded corners.
- Text and media can have their own unique paddings defined for sitting inside of backdrops.
- Text and media can be aligned within a block both horizontally (left/right/center) and vertically (top/bottom/center).
- While blocks can have a user-defined width and height, they’ll auto-resize themselves if they weren’t given enough room to fit their text or media.
- Blocks have the option to be hidden when the user’s mouse isn’t over the slideshow.
- Razor is constructed upon a ‘Flexible XML Framework’ that allows you to keep your slideshow’s XML lean and clean.
- Don’t need a particular element in your slide? Just leave out the XML for it! Razor will understand.
- Did you forget to put in an important piece of XML for a slide? Razor will switch to a default for you so your slideshow doesn’t crash to a hault.
- Virtually every piece of XML in the slideshow framework is optional! Use what you need and leave off the rest.
- Razor makes it as painless as possible for you to create meaningful content without a high learning curve.
- If an image or SWF on a slide were accidentally deleted from your project, Razor won’t leave you hanging. Your slide will display without the media, without errors.
- Don’t have text and don’t want to include a CSS file? That’s OK! If Razor doesn’t find a CSS file, it will play your slideshow without text, without error.
- Razor is written in AS3 using object-oriented programming techniques with extensive code commenting, making it easy for developers to follow, modify, and make additions to.
