I’ve written so many players this past year: progressive players, streaming players, multi-movie players… And it’s funny how long it takes to finally get around to putting some stuff together that you can go back to instead of staring over all the time. Well, here’s some stuff I definitely go back to.
SKPlayer is a standard progressive Flash (AS3, CS3 ) video player, that pretty much includes all the features I could think of: Doesn’t buffer when loaded, continues buffering when started and paused, auto-start feature with optional start image, auto-hide controls, lightweight (22k), no-scale full-screen mode… I’m sure I covered most of the bases. And if you can edit a movie clip graphic, it’s pretty easy to customize.
I also pared out a little section of ActionScript that’s one frame of code, you paste it into an AS3 document, give it your movie name, and it opens and plays a your video. A great quick-start when you just need some video without all the features.
As another little extra, I’m including an Air app that I whipped up just for reading movie file metadata and checking my bitrates. I’ve found it a lot handier than editing trace commands into my stuff to check my movie files, so I wanted to throw that in here, too.
