I am a Flash novice. Is it possible to have the “Read More” on each image ? Plus can the link not open in a new window ?

Yes.

You can load .swf files and have a button inside them saying read more.

Then use the getURL method to call the link & include the _self tag so it doesn’t open a new window.

onRelease = function(){ getURL(“http://yourlink.com”, “_self”, “GET”); }

There is not an xml link feature in this slide show however.

is there any way to add in a fade in or fade out effect between the slides?

In the action script.

It’s possible using the ._alpha method.

It requires some Action Script knowledge though.

Or, you could simply insert a mask layer.

Add a simple movie clip that covers the stage. (590×300)

Have it positioned at each point where the next image loads on the timeline.

Then have the movie clip as a solid color like black or white and fade it to 100% Alpha(transparent).
