If you need a small hit counter that doesn’t take the focus away from your main content, can be tucked away on a corner of your webpage, and still has some style… then this one is for you.
This hit counter, like many others, is driven by a PHP script. On each page visit (or page refresh) the PHP reads the visitor count number from a text file and increments it up by one. In other words, it tracks the total number of page hits, not “unique” visitors. The PHP uses file locking to ensure that the count file cannot be written to simultaneously by two or more users. The Flash SWF then reads the new count number from the text file and animates it as shown above. (Note: Your web server must support PHP in order to use this file.)
Four versions of the hit counter are provided for use on light or dark backgrounds, and left or right justification. Each version is provided in a separate SWF. (If you are adding this to a larger Flash project, each version is contained in its own movieclip to be dragged-and-dropped into your project.)
Instructions are provided to help you get this set up on your webpage.
FLA file in CS3 format – coded in ActionScript 3.0 – OK to publish for Flash Player 9 or higher.
(Note: Fonts used in this file include “PF Tempesta Seven” and “Kenyan Coffee”. Both fonts are free fonts which are available online. Due to distribution restrictions, the font files are not included in the downloadable package. However, you may choose to make modifications and re-publish the SWFs, in which case, font download links are provided in the instructions.)
