I like it, very slick
I am not able to see anything in the preview.
Very interesting
Ok Now I am able to see it. Nice work indeed.
where’s my country

Thanks to all for your comments.
Is it easy to switch the world map with one of our own maps unique PNG or JPG (ie non-world) ?
COOL ! Nice shading effect!!
Good item
Is this scalable? Can I make it large on my site like about 900px wide? Or is this the current size only?
The background maps for this item are composed of raster images and, as such, they should not be scaled up. When I originally created this map, I had to balance its dimensions with published file size. I could create a larger version, but the increased file size might make it impractical for internet use.
If you are Flash savvy, you could replace the raster background images with vector graphics to achieve scalability.
Now if only this had a geo-locator function to show current visitors (which I thought it did at first as my location showed up LOL )
I was wondering if you can extend this to show locations of visitors to the page where this placed – rather than just static points.
You can use the free infosniper service to retrieve ip address long/lat – http://www.infosniper.net/
InfoSniper is a free service to geolocate IP addresses and domain names and providing additional information like provider, country, city and even whois information. Just fill in the form and use the different display modes by adding url parameters.
We’re customizing the number of location point on the map but we find problems to reach our need (about 130 location points). The problem is that after a certain number of locations added (about 100) the related text doesn’t appears anymore…! We read that it was unlimited…isn’t it? Can you help us? Thanks a lot!
grafoarea: Wow – 130 points is a lot! I’m surprised you have the patience to locate so many.
I just ran a stress test on the map with 208 points and did not have any problems. I was not able to replicate your missing text issue. My best guess is that you have a typo somewhere in the XML file which is causing your problem. Check around the 100th XML entry.
Thank you for answer us so quickly! We have already checked all the possible wrong typo and we’ve found the “critical” point at the 74th (around the 972 line of the xml file)... If is possible , we can send you by mail (or in any ways you prefer…) the xml file to test…. Could be useful for us…
Thanks a lot!
Hello AerisT
I like your map very much but I am encountering the following 3 challenges:
1) I would like to put about 310 points (there are offices with which my client works) in different countries all over the world, do you think that I may have problem with that number? 2) Also, can you suggest me what I can do when I want to put 2 or 3 points over the same spot? Now I put them in a small distance. 3) Do you happen to know a site that gives the coordinates of different countries/cities, because I can’t find all the points that I have to put through trial and error, when sometimes I do not know where in the world a country is located.
Thanks a lot Mary
Mary: 1) I don’t see any reason why 310 points should be a problem. I recently stress tested this map to 208 points without any problems. The only problem you may encounter is, with so many data points in your XML , it is easy to have a typo which will cause the map to not work. So you will need to be very careful when setting up your XML file.
2) If you want to put 2 or more points in the same location, I would recommend using a small dot size and offsetting them by a few pixels so that each dot still has its own rollover functionality.
3) For locating point coordinates, there is a map in the instructions that can be used as a general guide to help you get close. But there still may be some trial and error involved.
very nice interactive map, Im trying to upload the to a wix.com website, no luck. Any help would be awesome… swf and as3 supported.
HI, thanks for a great app. a general question: page 5 in the pdf – where can I find a more detailed grid like that? I have the coordinates of my locations, but not in y and z. sorry about this dumb question – just never did a map before. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Michele
activebiz – the grid map in the instructions is only there to help you estimate an approximate x/y coordinate for your intended location. The x/y coordinate system for this component is an arbitrary system. There is no way to convert coordinates from another system to this one (like actual latitude and longitude).
If you need more detail in the grid map guide, I might suggest drawing in more grid lines by hand.
