Currently this file only supports xml.
Its not practical to use a text file thats why we use xml. However xml is really easy to use. Everything is documented

This module uses HTML texts, so you can use the img tag to add images to your news. Similar to any html texts/forum comments.
Unlike the new module this has no built in function to do so. (the above method will load images without a preloader and it will be placed according to your html text)

yes it does support any character. You can easily embed them.
Greeting. I purchased the news reader & love it! Quick question though- is there any way I can set the background colour to transparant or black? It defaults at white. Regards

If you are using the swf in an html file then it is easy to be done: just set the the flash to transparent using its “wmode”. email me for reference or google it
if you are load it to another file then you have no problem, the widget doesn’t have a background
