Hey, first off great file. Does everything very well and is easy to follow your code comments. I was wondering if there is a way to make it so that instead of the flashing effect it fades from one image to the other. I know that it is not your responsibility to help me customize it, but any help you could offer would be really great! Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback guys, appreciate it!

forestholder,

if you are comfy to mess around a little with the flash, then it wouldn’t be too hard for you to modify it.

would need to go into the “image_flash” MC in the library to see how the transition works. and that would be where you would need to modify this file to get your effect. plus a few edits in the actionscript in the main timeline.

but definitely not a quick thing to do, would take a little tinkering to figure out what everything does to get the fade over transition to work correctly.

i hope that helps you out?!

its a good idea, so i will look into building one for FlashDen.

maybe i will have one up in time for you to use it.

Thanks for the quick response. I will tinker around with it and keep my eyes open if you make an update. Seems like something I could use in many situations, so would definitely purchase it. If I figure out how to make it work I’ll send it your way so you can take a look.

So I kinda figured it out. I definitely did a workaround, but for my purposes it works great. Definitely not a file you would want to put on flash den, but if anyone is interested this is what I did. I made the “flash match the color of my background, or in my case it is actually a texture. I then slowed it down and made the tweens equal length. I did mine at about 30 fps with a frame rate of 25 for both the fade in and fade out. By doing this the image fades out, and then a new one fades in once the first one has faded completely out. Like I said, not the best way to do it, but definitely looks like the real deal. Thanks again for a great file pokey.

So the file works great but I need to use this component 3 times in the same swf and they’re not loading correctly. If I only load one .xml, it loads just fine, but it doesn’t work with all three. Any suggestions?

Use the FLA to make 3 different SWFs each with a unique name and each with a corresponding unique XML file. In the FLA you will need to change the XML path to the new XML name.

In the FLA , Frame 1, line 73, code reads:

get_images(“XML/imageList.xml”, parse_XML);

when making the new 3 different SWFs, you will want to change the “imageList.xml” to the unique corresponding XML file for that slide show.

lets say they will be “imageList_1.xml”, “imageList_2.xml”, “imageList_3.xml”.

To make three different SWFs, compile the FLA and then change the SWFs name that the FLA just produced to your new SWF name. Then when you compile the FLA again it will not replace the 1st new SWF .

These 3 new SWFs should correspond to the 3 different XML files. So a XML file for each SWF .

Therefore when you are done you will have 1 FLA , 3 SWfs & 3 XML files.

This file does exactly what you need it to. My only gripe was that I had to have the XML file in a certain location, so I modified the code to use FlashVars to pass in the location of the XML file dynamically.

The only issue I have had is when using the slideshow is that I get artifacts during the transitions. I get banding during the fading – specifically, about 3/4 of the way down the image vertically, I get what appears to be a white block moving upwards. Any suggestions as to what might cause this? I happens regardless of whether WMODE params are used.

Hi! Thanks for a nice looking flash banner. I’ve put my photos in to the folder and everything looks great. My problem is that I want to use it in a webpage that I’m creating, and I can’t make it work. So my questions:

1. How do I make it work in Dreamweaver? I want it to be a part of a .html page that I have created already! From the folder I’ve got the xmlfile, the imagefile, the swf. and the .fla and a htmlfile. The problem is that I don’t want to use the html.file that´s come from Flash 8, I want to do as here; On the top of this page ( http://activeden.net/item/xml-photo-slide-show-with-random-starting-image/18357 ) flashden has put your banner togheter with their design and everything. The html.file that comes from FLASH 8 only shows the banner, but I want to show the banner together with other stuff that I have created on my htmlpage.

Please help me.
